Croydon Council has extended a lifeline to two charities that were slated to feel the full force of cuts to its voluntary sector budget. Perhaps the council was paying heed to David Cameron, who has urged local authorities to trim their own fat before taking the kinfe to their charity partners.

Croydon Council has restored £72,000 in funding for two charities involved in a cull in June that saw spending on the voluntary sector slashed by around 60 per cent.
