Times are tough. This year's survey of the finance function within charities finds that the economic downturn is being keenly felt, with many organisations pruning staff numbers and many more cutting costs in other areas. Over the last 12 months, 36 per cent of charities cutting finance staff have had to make compulsory redundancies, up from 17 per cent last year.

| Insolvent refugee charity fails in High Court bid for interim relief
A High Court judge yesterday refused to order the Legal Services Commission to pay £600,000 to ensure that clients formerly represented by Refugee and Migrant Justice can continue to be represented by the charity's staff until their cases are transferred to other law firms.
