"He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. When he came to his senses, he said 'How many of my father's hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!'"
-- Luke 15 (TNIV) -- Jesus' Parable of the Lost Son.

Rather than the Horizon oil rig producing crude overflowing into the bank accounts of BP execs and employees, it became something quite different starting April 21: draining billions of dollars from the company and spilling oil over into places where it could only devastate and destroy (on land, in water, among wildlife and people's livelihood). BP's stock price went from $60.48 (April 20) to $36 (this week).
Have you ever put your hope in something that failed to come through for you? Are there recurring issues in your life that function this way: something draws you like the sirens call and you keep going there only to get the same disappointing result?
We'll speak to our hungers and thirsts this Sunday at City Life, considering the promise of Psalm 23: that the great shepherd of your life "prepares a table" before you. Have you been to that feast? Has your cup overflowed?
