Some people have started exploring faith at City Life because they found that their independent search for God just didn't produce enough satisfactory results. On the other hand, looking for God in a more communal way opens up a whole new set of possibilities for discovery and awareness.
St. Cyprian (c. 200-258) said it this way: "He cannot have God for his Father who has not the Church for his mother." Later, in Augustine's day, one prominent intellectual told a friend: "You must know that I am a Christian," to which his friend replied: "I shall not believe it, nor shall I count you among the Christians, until I see you in the church of Christ."
All of this is to say that there is something powerful--and much more authentically courageous--about pursuing God in the company of others.
