Author Visit
Tuesday, February 7, 7:00p - 8:00p
Local author Bryan Chick, author of The Secret Zoo plus 2 sequels - Secrets & Shadows and Riddles & Danger, will give a power point presentation on his life and books. He will also read excerpts from his stories.
Recommended for ages 8 and up.
Registration begins Tuesday, January 31.
Donating new books to the Library
Donations for the Library's collections just got easier. The Library now has a Wish List on Amazon.com. Our staff have created this list to include titles we need, some that we need additional copies of, and new titles we know will be in demand. Follow the link above for details on making a donation to our collections using this wish list.
Used Book Sale
The Friends of the Library are holding a 3-day book sale in the Community Room at the Library.

Friends of the Library Used Book Drop-off Day
The Friends of the Library will hold a used book donation drop-off day Saturday, February 12. Items can be dropped off in the Library's Community Room between 10:00a and 1:00p. Please note: There is a five box (or bag) limit. Call Lori Hosler at 248-674-7098 if your donation will exceed the limit. Items that are not accepted are:
- Encyclopedias over 10 years old
- Reader's Digest Condensed books
- Magazines
- Vinyl Records
- College Textbooks
- Musty/Moldy items

Saturday Specials
During the year we have a variety of programs on Saturday mornings. Most of the programs feature stories, crafts, and different activies. Registration is required.
*** Happy Hearts (Ages 3-5)
Saturday, February 4, 10:30a-11:15a
Come and listen to stories about Valentine's Day. We will be making a heart mouse and decorating a heart cookie.

Come and make something to show love for your pets.

*** Harry Potter Game Day (Ages 9-12)

We will be playing a DVD trivia game with questions based on the movies and books, with students divided into four teams. How well do you know the Hogwarts students and staff?

Storytimes for Children ages 0-5
Weekly storytime sessions are offered on a drop-in basis. No registration required.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. We ask that parents and caregivers arrive at least five minutes before the start of storytime in order to pick up nametags for their children and get settled in. All storytimes take place in the Children's Craft Room.

Lego Club
Students meet on the 4th Saturday of the month to create their own Lego structure. These will be displayed in the library until the next meeting. Then the students can make new structures. We have two class times in the morning for each meeting day. You can register for one of these sessions at the Children's Desk starting two weeks prior to the meeting date. Session times: 10:15a - 11:00a, OR 11:30a - 12:15p

Matinee Movies
We are showing family movies on selected Saturday afternoons and some days that the Waterford schools are closed. Popcorn will be provided. Feel free to bring blankets, pillows, sealed beverages, and snacks. We just ask that you not bring peanuts and drinks that will stain the carpet. All movies are shown in the library's community room. Children under 9 need adult supervision. No registration is required. Titles list is available in the Children's Department.
This winter, all movies start at 2:00 PM.

Babysitter Training (Ages 11-15)
Saturday, February 25, 9:30a - 3:30p
The American Red Cross training will provide youth with the skills every parent wants in a babysitter including safety, basic child care, facilitating safe play, first aid and critical emergency action skills. Cost is $25 which includes a training manual and babysitter first aid and safety kit. Participants will also need to bring a sack lunch.

GENEALOGY U
A series of free classes designed to prepare you to trace your FAMILY HISTORY. Genealogy 101, 102, 103, and 104 will provide you with the basic information necessary to trace your family's history. Special classes will focus on particular areas of research.
- All classes are from 9:30a - 1:00p
- Registration required at Adults' Reference desk or by phone, 248.618.7693
- You may attend any or all classes
- It is recommended (but not required) that you attend Genealogy 101 or have some experience before attending other classes.
Irvin Rabideau, B.S., M.A., M.S.L.S., A.B.D., the instructor, has been involved in genealogical research, teaching, lecturing, and publication for over 40 years.

Book Memorials & Donations
|
|
Book memorials are a meaningful way of
remembering a person, a group, an occasion or a
milestone.
Donations are used to purchase books and other
materials or deposited in the Library's donations
account for future use.
Checks should be make payable to the
Waterford Township Public Library and will be
accepted by the Director.
NOTE: Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
Friends' Fundraising Projects
There are a number of fundraising projects
sponsored by the Friends of the Library in addition to the Used Book Sales.
- VG's Community Share program: turn in your
register receipts so that they can be turned into
cash
- Tote bags for sale at the Circulation Desk - Fresh stock - new color combination - polypropylene construction - $2 each.
- Royal Oak Recycling - White Lake location, 10320 Highland Road. Drop off recyclables and
instead of receiving cash designate the Friends of the
Waterford Library as recipient.
