Park & Read is Back!
Back for a second summer, the DNRE and the Library of Michigan are again offering Park & Read at more than 400 libraries across Michigan, including our library.
Park & Read allows library card-holders the ability to "check-out" a one-day pass into any Michigan state park or recreation area in lieu of the resident daily motor vehicle permit. This $6 savings also provides free access to the more than 500 events taking place in state parks throughout the summer.
For those interested in bringing along a library book for serious beach reading, 71 of the state parks have hammocks available for Park & Read users to borrow while on-site for the day so they can fully enjoy a great book in Michigan's great outdoors.
Passes are valid for seven days from check-out and can be used for one day at any one of Michigan's 98 state parks. Passes are valid for day-use only. The program is available through October 1, 2010.

Recycling your CD Jewel Cases
Have you got jewel cases from CD's in good condition that need a home? The library could use them to replace broken and damaged jewel cases on CD's in our collection. Good condition means no breaks or cracks in the surfaces and closing mechanisms that still work. Drop off these recycling candidates at our circulation desk on your next visit.

Library Tip of the Month

NEW AT THE LIBRARY
Our catalog
has a new look and a few changes.
Now known as eLibrary, we think you'll find it's pretty similar to the previous version of the catalog, but you
may want to take note of the following changes.
Searching
- You pick your type of search (author, title, subject,
keyword) from a drop down menu, and then click
the "search" button
- The specialized searches, such as audiobook
search, or movie search, which used to be on the tabs
across the top of the page, are now found on the right
side of the page in the "Find Material" box. A link to
MeLCat is also in that box.
- Once you do a search and get a hit list, click on
either the title or the item's cover image to get to the
full information for that item and see whether any
copies are available and where they are located,
and/or to place a hold.
Renewing your items
- In "My Account," the renewal of materials is
accomplished from the "Checkouts" tab.
Please let us know if you need help using this new
version of the catalog, or just have comments.

Library Quote of the Month
|
|
Libraries are reservoirs of strength, grace and wit, reminders of order, calm and continuity, lakes of mental energy, neither warm nor cold, light nor dark.... In any library in the world, I am at home, unselfconscious, still and absorbed.
~Germaine Greer

Book Memorials & Donations
|
|
Book memorials are a meaningful way of
remembering a person, a group, an occasion or a
milestone.
Donations are used to purchase books and other
materials or deposited in the Library's donations
account for future use.
Checks should be make payable to the
Waterford Township Public Library and will be
accepted by the Director.
NOTE: A partial income tax credit is allowed when
you
donate to a qualifying Michigan public institution such
as the Waterford Township Public Library.
Friends' Fundraising Projects
There are a number of fundraising projects
sponsored by the Friends of the Library beyond the
Used Book Sales. Other projects are
- VG's Community Share program: turn in your
register receipts so that they can be turned into
cash
- Canvas Book Bags for sale at the Circulation Desk
at Main, featuring a drawing
of the Main Library
- Royal Oak Recycling - drop off recyclables and
instead of receiving cash designate the Friends of the
Waterford Library as recipient.
