Campus Kitchen Receives
Grade A Food Excellence Award

Saint Paul, under the direction of head chef and kitchen manager, Vera Kahler, received a Grade A Food Excellence Award from the State Health Department. It is the first time for the seminary to apply and receive the award in the history of the seminary.
A Grade A award means that the staff exhibited excellence in sanitation and food safety as well as evidence of successful employee education throughout 2010. Not only do staff receive proper training in food preparation, but all student workers must receive food handling training as well. According to Kahler, the Health Department does not announce the days that it will visit for inspections and each inspection must meet 100% of Health Department standards in order to get the Grade A rating.
A certificate is now framed and posted in the serving area to inform the community and outside guests of this achievement. We congratulate everyone that works so diligently to prepare Saint Paul meals in the kitchen and at Holy Grounds. |

2011 Friend of Rural Ministry Recipient
Dr. Shannon Jung, our very own Franklin and Louise Cole Professor of Town and Country Ministries, is the recipient of the 2011 National Friend of Rural Ministry Award. He was presented the award at the 30th Annual Rural Ministry Conference at Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. Dr. Jung was recognized for promoting improvement and establishing best practices in rural ministry.
Shannon Jung currently teaches the Theology of Growing and Eating class. Together, the class plants and cares for sustainable crops in raised beds on campus. The fresh produce has been used in recent years for meals in the Holter Center. A guest speaker from the University of Missouri Extension Service came Jung's class on the Kansas City Campus this week to share his expertise on organic vegetable gardening and disease prevention. He also answered an array of other questions from class members with varying levels of gardening experience. |
Raymond Zullig Retires After 39.5 Years at Saint Paul

President Myron McCoy announced that Raymond Zullig, Campus Superintendent, will retire at the end of March. "We will miss the stories he's shared over the years, but more importantly we will miss his presence. We are truly grateful for his dedicated service," said President McCoy. Raymond has been part of the Saint Paul community for 39.5 years of its 53 years of existence. Zullig kept the parking lots clear of snow, at all hours of the night; kept boilers functioning years beyond what the manufacturer ever envisioned; and managed the facilities during lean years with sheer ingenuity and craftsmanship. Please join us on Wednesday, March 30, during Community Meal, to recognize and give thanks to Raymond for his service to Saint Paul. You may send notes to Raymond Zullig, 5123 East Truman Road, Kansas City, MO 64127. |
