That's a Happy Rainbow! You could win a FREE I See I Learn book!
·······················
Over the summer, Matt Halperin, a kindergarten teacher in Maine who also author's a blog called Look at My Happy Rainbow (LAMHR), wrote to us:
...Recently I came across your site and books and was blown away by the impact they could have on my classroom and those of the many teachers who follow my blog. I have over 1,900 followers on facebook, over 800 on twitter, and over 600 followers on the blog itself. These are a wonderful group of teachers and parents who are interested in the education and emotional health of children...
My colleague, Janet, and I were blown away by Matt, who has been using I See I Learn books in his classroom and reports: Like any good kindergarten teacher, I have a pile of books on a shelf marked 'Social Skills' with a piece of masking tape... that's about as fancy as I get about labeling. Stuart's books hold a proud place on this shel... In August, Matt held the first of two LAMHR teacher give-aways of I See I Learn books, launching the week-long contest with a beautiful post (we're blushing!) During the week of October 2rd, you can go to LAMHR and put your hat in the ring for the second give-away. Good luck! And thank you, Matt!

The Latest "I See I Learn" Books
New stories about a little boy who practices and learns how to write his name, and a little girl who thinks she is lost, but knows what to do to get found again!
(I See I Learn books are available in hardcover and paperback)
·······················
Write On, Carlos!: the cognitive skill of learning to write your name Carlos wants to learn how to write his name, just like is friend Ajay. He knows the alphabet, so is off to a good start (the alphabet runs along the bottom border each double-page spread as a reference). His mom is a big help, too, spelling out the first three letters-C-a-r. At the park the next day, Carlos and some of his friends from Ready, Set Pre-K--Freda, Percy and Ajay--are playing in the sandbox, writing their names in the sand. Percy, of course, being Percy, draws a self-portrait. When Carlos spells "C-a-r," Percy (oh that Percy!), jumps into his pedal-car and leads everyone for quick spin around the playground... (read more!) ·························· Freda Gets Found: the health and safety skill of knowing what to do when lost Being lost is scary. So is that awful feeling someone in your charge has gone missing. Freda Is Found focuses on skills that can: - help keep a child from getting lost
- make being lost a little less frightening
Freda--the Hermione Granger of the I See I Learn set--is the last child you would expect to get lost. Freda follows directions! Freda loves directions! But anyone can get lost, which is important to remember. It takes only a moment to let go of a hand and become separated from the group. Suddenly, nothing looks familiar. Everybody is a stranger. And... it's...scary!... (read more!) ·························· Each book includes a special two-page section called "A Closer Look," designed to help parents, teachers and care-givers review key points of the story together with their children.
For happier, healthier, more confident children: I See I Learn!

"I See I Learn" Books in Spanish!
The first four Stuart J. Murphy's I See I Learn books are now available in Spanish!
(hardcover & paperback editions) ·······················

Twitter + Facebook + Webdocs = Info Fun!
My colleague, Janet, loves webdocs! Webdoc is a free web-based program that allows you to create one page mini-websites quickly and easily, without the need, or expense, of a programmer. Each webdoc has its own unique url, which makes them ideal for posting on Twitter and Facebook.
·······················
That's right, Stuart! I adore these things! I started a series based a listing of MathStart books by NCTM Standard. For example: MathStart, Numbers and Operations: Stories about Buddies, Bears & Recycling
I also created a series for I See I Learn books called "MIss Cathy Recommends...," starring Ready Set Pre-K's very own Miss Cathy! Each focuses on a specific social, emotional, health and safety or cognitive skill and includes links to relevant articles and other mateirals, as well as a description of an I See I Learn story. For example: Teamwork! Miss Cathy Recommends Books and Resources.
Follow us on Twitter (@vizlearning) and Facebook for more! Share the links with friends and colleagues!
We also tweet and FB when there are new posts on our vizlearning blog, too. In addition to covering Stuart's books (now over 70!), we have covered subject ranging from Project Noah, a crowd-sourced nature guide, to Triclosan, common antimicrobial ingredient currently under review by the FDA. Check us out!
