***UPDATE FROM VIETNAM***

Can Tho' City, Vietnam -The ministry in Vietnam began with a flourish!  After the long flight from the USA, an overnight in Hong Kong, and a small bit of frustration getting in to the country we have just completed our first full day of ministry, and what a wonderful day it was!

Our travels took us through the Mekong Delta, down many of the same waterways that; just forty years ago were home to some of the most intense fighting of the "Conflict in the Republic."  I must confess that there was eeriness as we sailed down the cannels and thought of the hundreds and thousands of brave men and women who gave their life for the cause of freedom.  I have a renewed love and appreciation for those who served in this place.  Thank-you.

While on this riverboat, I realized that we were involved in a different conflict and a different war.  Not a war of political differences, nor a war about philosophical differences, not even a war over religious differences, but a war for the souls of men.  This war was not being waged in the waters of Vietnam, but has already been fought, and won on Calvary's cross.  As we journeyed through the place we were on our way to share in the victory of many, many people who had recently received the free gift of God, in Christ Jesus.
Vietnam baptism

When we arrived at our point of ministry, we were greeted a crowd of over 100 who were packed into a small building, anticipating our coming.  As our team spoke to the crowd additional boatloads of new Christians arrived to be a part of this baptismal service.  By the time we were ready for the actual baptismal there were as many as 200 people present.  It was a glorious site to behold.

The water in the delta was extremely dirty and the bottom was so muddy that Jeff and I had a difficult time finding any solid footing.  I even lost my shoes in the bottom of the river but we were able to share in the joy of over 100 people as we baptized them as a testimony of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

lauWhile each person had a story to tell, one dear lady caught my attention.  Her name was Lau and she told us, through our interpreter, that she was 85 years old and had recently received Jesus Christ into her life.  When I baptized her and as she came up out of the water the absolute joy of the Lord was evident on her face, in her spirit, and overflowing to everyone around her.  As we talked together it was completely evident that this woman had been transformed by the grace of Jesus Christ.

I am thankful that God has allowed GEM to be in Vietnam.  I am particularly thankful for our newest, regular team member, Andy Poe, for the outstanding photographs and video that he is capturing.  Our partnership with my dear friend Jeff Andler and JAMin is again allowing us to

"Go into all the world and preach the Gospel!"
