HARVEST GHANA Too!

On Monday, 31 March 2008 our national team of Rev. Sammy Lartey(GEM  of Ghana, national director) and Pastor Simon Akpolu left on our second project in Ghana this year.

These two, along with their Ghanaian team left from Kpong and traveled to Afrom Plains -- a remote and difficult area of the country to conduct a two-week evangelistic project in villages, schools, and other public forums.

This trip was initially scheduled to include members from the USA, but after his first "scouting visit" to the region, Sammy informed us that "the conditions in the area are simply too difficult for the Americans to cope with."

The work however, must go on.  No road is too rough, no place to remote for the presentation of the gospel! So with the full financial support of GEM we sent out the Ghana team.

Please remember to pray for the GEMoG team, just like you would when any American team sets forth on an international project.

We are fully committed to the task of

"Going where others
dare not go!"

Thank you for your continued interest and investment in Global Evangelism Ministries (GEM).

The most recent ministry project to Ghana was a tremendous success -- as reported in our last electronic and print update.

As always, we are committed to the task of reporting to our friends the information on each of our projects.  While our last update gave you a glimpse into the work, at least from our perspective, we wanted to give you the full report as presented by GEM of Ghana (GEMoG) Director, Rev. Sammy Lartey.

Brother Sammy does far more work that most of you imagine.  I think sometimes we mistakenly believe that the totality of Sammy's work is done while we Americans are in Ghana.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  He works tirelessly in preparation, participation, and the follow-up on our projects while at the same time serving as the Pastor of the Grace Baptist Church in Kpong and as the direct overseer of 28 pastors under his leadership around the country.

I hope you will enjoy reading his report below which has not been edited at all.  He is a great brother and tremendous servant of the Lord.  Until Jesus comes, I remain

Yours, in the fulfilling of the Great Commission, rdmsignature
PROJECT REPORT FROM SAMMY LARTEY

To God be the Glory ; Great things He has done. Tremendous was the Success of the just ended Pre - Easter Project 2008 in Ghana. This, was a Wonderful improvement upon previous projects held in Ghana.

The following Six factors contributed tremendously to the success story of this project.

 1.   Increase in team from USA number to SIX. This made it possible for breaks into 3 or  more groups when Need arose.

2.    Free Dental Clinic by DR. David Ney. This brought a tremendous impart on  the  rural folk who does not have access to Dental treatment.

3.     Inclusion of a Youth minister / videographer =Andy Poe, whose ministration had a great influence on the youths during the School Ministries.

4.     Provision of over 15,000 New Testaments and Bibles for New Converts which made recipients very happy .

5.     The Six member team's Willingness to stay in a village Guest House without AC and  other amenities of comfort, without complaining. This was a real display of sacrifice to get the Gospel to the unreached, which confirm the GEM slogan of going where others will not dare go.

6.     Provision of the Land Rover for BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER, project work. Without this Land Rover, the success story would have been different.

The above 6 factors aided by the Holy Spirit and God's Grace made the just - ended project the best of all previous projects with 14,506 Souls won for Christ.

THE SUCCESS STORY.
Praise to our Good Lord for His Wonderful Provision for this Great Harvest which begun on the very first day of the team's arrival in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region .The team arrived in Hohoe on Saturday the 8th of March at around 7.30 pm after about 4 hours journey from Accra. Tired but not worn out, we quickly got into the first action for the night in 2 villages. Over 1,100 souls were won this night which is an indication of great things the Lord has in store for the team in the coming days.

The next day, Sunday saw over 1,000 converts from 2 villages during the evening programme  whilst the morning worship service had 40 converts

On Monday, the team broke into 3groups.Two groups were for School Ministries, whilst the 3rd headed by Dr. David Ney went to a village for Dental Clinic from 7.00 am to 14.30pm.

THE DENTAL CLINIC.ney2
Although, many turned up, they were initially skeptical for 2 reasons.
  • Whether the Treatment was actually going to be free, considering how much it has cost even the rich in society to have their dental treatments.
  • How they were going to Endure the pain, since dental treatment was very painful.
But all these fears vanished when the 1st man treated, said he felt No pain. This led to a crowd flocking in on Dr. David and Mark, his assistant..The rural folks described Dr. David as an Angel of God for doing this great work on their teeth without the slightest pain.

Dr. David had to over-worked this 1st day to meet the teaming crowd even without Lunch till after 14.30 pm, which was a real show of Love which the villagers said was wonderful. The same trend followed in the next 2 villages the following Tuesday and Wednesday.

In all these instances, Dr. David and his able assistant had to sacrificed their Lunch to attend to the many who had come for treatment till after 14.00pm. WHAT A SHOW OF LOVE FOR A PEOPLE ONE WAS MEETING FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Morning School Ministries and Evening Cinema crusade results were fantastic to the Glory of our God who does everything to His Glory.

THE TEAM LEFT THE HOHOE DISTRICT ON THURSDAY 13TH FOR THE PEKI DISTRICT TO CONTINUE THE SECOND HALF OF THE PROJECT .

PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION OF GEM SLOGAN
Here in Peki, the team had to live in a Guest House since there was no Hotel in the whole of this area. This had No AC. nor restaurant for food .. There was also No other amenities for a comfortable stay. But true to the slogan  of GEM, OF GOING WHERE OTHERS WILL NOT DARE GO, the team quickly settled down to these uncomfortable  conditions without complaining.

gh_kidThat evening, Thursday 13th march saw over 900 souls giving their lives to Christ.

The next day Friday saw the team breaking into 3 groups to meet the heavy schedule of this area's school ministry and Dental Clinic schedule..

Here Dr. David and his assistant were aided by 2 nurses to make their work easy.
All the same, Dr. David had to over worked from 8.00 am to 15.30 pm thereby sacrificing their lunch till late after 15.30pm.

Dr. David was billed to fly back to the USA on Saturday 15th ,but worked tirelessly that day from 8.00 am till 15.30 pm. He had to rush home for a hurried bath and lunch before being driven to Accra to enplane back to the USA.

Dr. David's concerns shown by the way he worked ,had left a big mark in the minds of all who he treated. He has also left all the equipment and drugs he brought with a promise to come back during the next project in the coming Fall.

My passionate appeal goes to all who made it possible for Dr.David to come to try to sponsor him for the next project for he has a heart for the people he treated. He is a God given asset to GEM.

That Saturday, the team had to make a 40 minutes journey to  a village and continue on foot from there to  the river side  for Baptismal ceremony. A laboring woman who does not want to be left out boarded the van for this trip. The vans stopped at the village of Sojikope for the team with the converts for baptism to continue the rest of the journey on foot due to the inmotorable nature of the road. This woman was carried in the Land Rover over rocks and hills to get to the river side where she was the  first to be baptized.

She was rushed by Dr. Roy and Rev. Jeff to the van in the Land Rover for a quick trip home where she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy later that same day.

MACEDONIA APPEAL BY VILLAGERS OF SOJIKOPE
The elders of this village noted for her idol worship which has closed the village to the Gospel met us with their need for a new way of life. Their story was that they had served an idol in a shrine all their lives. This idol they claimed was said to be fire-proof. But contrary to this claim a recent fire out break burnt down the shrine together with the idol. Since they now have no idol to serve , they desire another way of live .

We promised these desperate villagers their desired new way with a Jesus film crusade for them to SEE, HEAR and RECEIVE for themselves what CHRIST has done and can do for them...

GH_hutOn Easter Sunday 23rd March, GEMOG led by the Director,Sammy, left Kpong for  the village of Sojikope. Though it was raining heavily at the time, the team braved the storm for this unfinished task. The rains has just stopped when we arrived in the village. Despite the down pour, an appreciable crowd of 250 people turned up for the cinema crusade.

200 out of this, hungrily indicated first time decision for Christ. The elders confirmed their willingness for a new way of life by asking for a church to be started for them without delay. Sister Mary our lady leader in the next village who was with us has been assigned the task of building up these new babies in Christ. Pastor Eben of the Peki church has also promised helping with periodic visits.

That evening saw a crowd of over 1300 people in the village of Dzake giving their lives to Christ. Among these was a elderly man by name, GABRIEL  who showed his gratitude and willingness to serve the Lord by donating his 100ft by 100ft plot of land for the start of a new church building in that village. Brother Gabriel was in church at Peki the following Sunday for the Inaugural service of this newly planted church, Winners Baptist Church .

The evening of this day saw the gathering in of over 1,200 souls from the 2villages  indicating first time decision for Christ.

Monday the 17th of March was heavily scheduled for 7 school ministry in the morning. The team thus broke into 4main groups to be able to tackle the day's assignments before  leaving for Accra to  enplane for the USA.

Andy PoeThe mantle for  ministration here fell on young Brother Andy Poe who has all these time been taking camera and video coverage of the project activities. Andy's ministration to the youths really had a great impart on these youth who saw him as one of them.

Over 100 students indicated 1st time decision for Christ that morning.

A testimony of true conversion was witnessed when a student brought a missing money he found to the Teacher to be given to the owner. This according to the teacher was the first in the history of that school which he said was a confirmation of a changed live.

Andy's ministration at the next school, a Roman Catholic school was so touchy that over 100 students gave their lives to Christ for the first time.
PASSIONATE APPEAL.
I wish to humbly appeal to all who sponsored Andy's trip to Ghana to do us the favour of helping him again for the next project in the Fall. For, he has really affected the lives of the youths with his ministration.
Great has been the Faithfulness of our Great Lord whose Provision saw us through this successful project. May His name be PRAISED.

CONCLUSION.
My Gratitude in Conclusion goes to all concerned families of GEM who in divers ways PRAYED, GAVE, and Supported this Project to make up this SUCCESSFUL story possible. Your labour will not be in vain.

BELOVED WE STILL HAVE YET MORE UNREACHED VILLAGES WITH THOUSANDS THAT HAS NOT YET HEARD THE GOSPEL.

THUS THE NEED FOR MORE PROJECTS CAN NOT BE OVER EMPHASIZED. PRAY, GIVE AND DO ALL YOU CAN FOR THE COMING PROJECT IN THE FALL.
