THE NEXT GENERATION OF ARTISTIC LEADERS TOUCHES THE COMMUNITY
Part of the NWSA mission to train the next generation of artistic leaders involves giving students an opportunity to showcase their talents and introducing them to new markets while also allowing the community to experience the professional level of NWSA's shows. With this in mind, NWSA has expanded its choice of venues and presentations this year in celebration of its Silver Anniversary. Collaborations with venues such as the Colony Theater, the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center and the Sagamore Hotel take NWSA students out of the classroom and familiar performance and exhibition settings, allowing them to augment their arts educational experience with professional-level exposure, making South Florida their stage and canvas. We invite you to share their experience by attending these events and supporting these venues as another way to join our community outreach efforts.

Dyas. Each school visit included an assembly program featuring a musical performance for all students, followed by jazz workshops for each school's jazz band and choir with the visiting student performers playing alongside and sharing ideas with their counterparts from New Mexico.
The NWSA ensemble included bassist Jose Albizu-Campos; guitarist Harley Basadre; drummer Chris Edwards; saxophonist David Leon; and pianist Antonio Madruga."Our quintet has grown so much by learning Bobby Watson's music," said Tony Madruga, "It runs the full gamut from swing to bebop to modern and everything in between." |
