GARTH FAGAN MASTER CLASS AT NWSA
Two dance alumni from New World School of the Arts' college program came back to the light-filled studios on the 8th floor of NWSA to share their passion for dance and professional expertise with their younger peers. Vitolio Jeune (BFA 2009) and Amshell Padilla (BFA 2010), now dancers with the world-renowned Garth Fagan Dance company, offered a master class led by award winning dancer Norwood Pennewell, Rehearsal Director and Assistant to Garth Fagan. "I had a wonderful time at the master class at New World School of the Arts," mentioned Pennewell as he shook endless hands of students who had the honor of rehearsing some of Garth Fagans' techniques - "These students are very driven and enthusiastic and they had a great time during this class." Indeed, the almost two-hour class was not only challenging due to the intensity of the movements, but it was also invigorating and inspiring for the group of forty students that ranged from college freshman to 2012 BFA candidates. "Garth Fagan Dance Company presented phenomenal technique and breathtaking choreographic skill that quintessentially validates their artistic genius," mentioned Keyasha Williams-Bailey, junior college dancer and SGA Special Committee Chairperson and Treasurer "I've gained range within syncopated rhythmic style and maximized my movement through music." Other Garth Fagan dancers who graciously joined the master class were Nicolette Depass, Khama Phillips, and Shanon Castle.

WORLD DANCE APPLAUDS DIVERSITY Together with dancers from the University of Florida, the NWSA dancers will offers the exhilarating 3-day World Dance Celebration showcase, where NWSA College and high school dancers perform to the beat of live drums and recorded music and features choreographic works from contemporary world modern dance to traditional African dance. WORKS BY 8
NWSA's November visual arts exhibition hands over the NWSA Gallery to participating artists as a completely blank canvas on which to express their ideas. During the following two weeks, eight high school and college visual artists will each take ownership of one wall in the expanse in-house gallery and use it to conceptualize their artistic thought process through a myriad of mediums. Curated by the visual arts faculty, among other equally cutting-edge works the proposed pieces range from video installations to gargantuan cloth-draped running-art that extends beyond the wall to become one with the floor.

THREE CUTTING-EDGE EXHIBITIONS DURING ART BASEL
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, New World School of the Arts' visual arts division has leaped into Art Basel mode with three ground-braking cutting-edge exhibitions.
In collaboration with WET HEAT, NWSA will present two shows simultaneously. HOTBED MIAMI 2011, this is a performance-based installation show where each of four participating artists must install their work overnight, present their piece to actively engage the crowds of viewers the following show day, and strike their piece immediately afterward to make room for the next artist's work. A PIECE OF ME is an annual multi-modal exhibition of visual conversations between established artists and art students in which students choose one of the four significant artworks of their predecessors in a one-to-one engagement of ideas and forms, but with a very specific modal challenge: their creative response must be in the form of a video art piece / installation. The prescribed electronic format of this challenge emphasizes the student's idea and its manifestation through distinct contrast to the established original. Showcased alumni include Hernan Bas, Jen Stark, Loriel Beltran, and Michael Vasquez.
As in years past, NWSA will also partner with CASALIN to present RAPTURE: THE DAY AFTER in the luscious gardens of The Yard at Casalin, the recognized urban garden exhibition site that has become one of the first stops for arts enthusiasts during the Art Basel. A series of installations are slated to illustrate what the end of the world might look like after the Rapture. With a wide range of works from ten NWSA faculty and alumni, the show illustrates this theme through creature-like animals reminiscent of what the world might be after this unimaginable event.
