Berlin Trip
VISUAL ARTS BFA CLASS OF 2010 TRAVELS TO BERLIN
Accompanied by the Dean of Visual Arts, Maggy Cuesta and faculty Fred Snitzer twenty-two BFA graduates embarked on the ten-day journey to attend the 6th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art. "The Berlin Biennale differs from a conventional art festival in that it is composed of a series of events rather than a single exhibition, and each time it changes locations and venues according to the exigencies of the exhibition" explained Cuesta. Each year the organizers select an array of unusual venues and exhibition sites. Over 60 artists attend the event working in a variety of media and techniques from etching to woodcut, animation to still photography, role-playing to team building. The group of NWSA artists will also have an opportunity to visit private collections and museums, go on exclusive tours, and experience the wonders of Berlin.

The NWSA college senior trip to Berlin was maded possible through the generous contributions of: Rosa de la Cruz, Dee Dee Moss, Aetna Foundation, Knight Foundation, Jordan Bock, and fundraising initiatives of the visual arts division.

Dance to Prague
COLLEGE DANCE STUDENTS' JOURNEY TO PRAGUE

College students from the New World School of the Arts Dance Division will attend the New Prague Dance Festival in the Czech Republic from July 1 to July 8, 2010.  The festival brings dance companies from all over the world to take master classes, participate in workshops and seminars, share ideas and creative work with dancers from all over the world, visit museums and cultural sites. "We will be performing Robert Battle's "Battlefield" at the National Theatre of Prague. The students will experience performing for an international audience and bring home cultural and artistic experiences they could not get at home," mentioned Daniel Lewis, Dean of Dance at NWSA, who will accompany the students along with faculty Maureen O'Rourke, Lara Murphy and Joshua Gumbinner.

The Festival/Competition is open to private and amateur dance schools, groups and institutions without age limitation, as the purpose of the festival is to provide all participants with a unique opportunity of experiences charged with emotions in the magical atmosphere of the beautiful city of Prague.

CONGRATULATIONS NWSA GRADUATES!

Sixty-seven New World School of the Arts College students enthusiastically paraded to the beat of African drums through the streets of downtown Miami. The group, accompanied by their mentors, filled the air with their contagious laughter and unparalleled excitement, as they arrived at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts to receive their long-awaited BFA / BM diplomas. To the tunes of Bagpipes, their younger peers from the High School class of 2010, followed the same path to the Gusman for yet another unforgettable commencement ceremony, bringing the academic year at New World School of the Arts to a successful and accomplished end. "We couldn't ask for a better year," corroborated Jeffrey Hodgson, Interim Provost of NWSA and Fred Conde, Principal of the high school, "once again our students demonstrated their commitment to their education and their passion for their art. It has been an honor to work with them for the past four years. They will most definitely be missed. Congratulations class of 2010!"
