The Exonerated

THOUGHT-PROVOKING RENDITION OF THE EXONERATED

Under the direction of Matthew Glass, a cast of 19 high school students will present this thought-provoking production which will undoubtedly leave you reflecting on our nation's system of due process.Culled from interviews, letters, transcripts, case files, and the public record, The Exonerated tells the true stories of six people sent to Death Row for crimes they did not commit. Moving between first-person monologues and scenes set in courtrooms and prisons, the six interwoven stories paint a picture of an American criminal justice system gone horribly wrong and of six brave souls who persevered to survive it.

INVIGORATING HIGH SCHOOL SPRING DANCE CONCERT
High school students from NWSA Dance program will present their spring concert featuring a vast number of stirring choreographies, including Battlefield, an intense piece set to music by Les Tambours du Bronx by NWSA alum and Alvin Ailey Dance Company Artistic Director Robert Battle. Other choreographies to be showcased are Lara Murphy's Away with Words, created especially for this year's graduating class, combines classical and contemporary movement to explore elements of grammar; Passengers, a fantasy on train travel choreographed by Gerard Ebitz, was designed for two casts of 22 dancers with costumes inspired by the Cynthia Dufault collection from the 2009 fashion show; Who Shall I Be Today, an original choreography and premiere by NWSA's Rebecca Cannan that highlights the concept of multitasking as illustrated through the use of a stage full of hats; and Peter London's Chirren of Guinea that explores ways in which to render, in a contemporary voice, the traditional movement vocabulary of the Orishas of Santeria and Candomble, and LOAS of Voodoo.

Fred Snitzer
HIGHEST RECOGNITION FOR FRED SNITZER
Frederic Snitzer, renowned Miami gallerist, philanthropist, and NWSA visual arts faculty, was among the group of generous community suporters to be recognized during the 10th Annual Leave A Legacy awards luncheon and ceremony, receiving the Donor Next Door award. A long-time supporter of New World School of the Arts, Snitzer teaches sculpture to students from the college program and curates the highly regarded BFA exhibition; however his support for the school extends far beyond the classroom. Understanding the specific needs of visual arts students, Fred was instrumental in helping secure the venue which has become Artseen, a 15,000 square-foot studio and exhibition area located in the heart of the Wynwood Arts area. Along with past Director of the Rubell collection and NWSA Faculty, Mark Coetzee, Snitzer also created the NWSA Visual Arts Honors Program which is currently celebrating its second year of success, underwritten by the Aetna Foundation.
