A Center of Excellence in the Visual and Performing Arts, at Miami Dade College - January 2010 |
A NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE FROM OUR PROVOST
The New Year brings the excitement of a new semester at New World School of the Arts. For many of our students, it is the last semester before graduating, and one that is filled with performances and exhibitions, final juries and presentations, and the anticipation of the next steps in their lives and careers. Many others who remain, continue to turn new corners, growing and developing in their art while working diligently to meet the demands and high expectations of our arduous curriculum.
This talented group of students excel in their academic and artistic development as a result of their thirst for knowledge and passion, dedication of the NWSA faculty, the outstanding training they receive, and the support of their parents, family and friends. Joining the ranks of their fellow alumni, these students will soon be leaving their mark as professionals and as artists in our community and throughout the nation.
You too can be a sustaining pillar for New World School of the Arts, and become an integral part of our family by attending performances, volunteering your valuable time or contributing financially. Our spring session is replete with exciting opportunities. Click on the calendar for a full listing of events and performances.
Best wishes for a prosperous and Happy New Year and thank you for your continued support of NWSA. | |

The accolade gives these talented students the opportunity to exhibit their designs alongside 98 other international artists, in various cities around the globe including Amsterdam, Ankara, Beirut, Belgrade, Brussels, Buenos Aires, Chungnam, Derry, Heidelberg, La Paz, Lima, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Marrakech, Milan, Montreal, Paris, Quito, Seville and Vienna. "In many countries such as Iran many innocent people are persecuted and imprisoned daily for expressing their thoughts about democracy and freedom," stated NWSA visual arts faculty and project director Rosario Martínez-Cañas, "the organizers of Poster 4 Tomorrow hoped to spark a movement that would inspire people worldwide to stand together against injustice and intolerance."

U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT: NWSA AMONG THE TOP HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE NATION
NWSA, nationally recognized for its excellent artistic program, has again been recognized as one of the leading high schools in the nation. Receiving a Gold Medal ranking for the second time in three years, NWSA made the grade as "America's 2010 Best High Schools." The selection was announced earlier last month by the publication, which analyzed 21,000 high schools in 48 states using a formula produced by a K-12 data research and analysis business, run by Standard & Poor's. In order to determine the ranking, the analysis looked at results yielded by Advance Placement (AP) tests as well as International Baccalaureate (IB).
The rigorous academic high school program at New World School of the Arts offers students the ability to graduate as seniors with a total of 24 college credits.
Only three other schools in South Florida received the Gold Medal along with NWSA: DASH, MAST Academy and Coral Reef.

The four NWSA finalists are among the 26 Florida students that will participate in YoungArts Week, a program designed by NFAA to give talented students from across the nation the opportunity to work with other students, while being mentored and taught by professionals in their field.
New World School of the Arts has produced more than 214 NFAA Award recipients and 14 Presidential Scholars in the Arts, placing it among the most influential and prestigious arts conservatories in the nation.
YoungArts Week runs January 12-16 with free performances at various venues around South Florida. For more information, visit youngarts.org. |
