A Center of Excellence in the Visual and Performing Arts, at Miami Dade College - September 2009 |
NWSA students and alumni continue to leave their imprint on the arts world by sharing their talent. This group of talented artists are an important part of today's social consciousness and, despite their young age, are addressing many of the issues that we face today as a society. As they choose to express their art, whether it's on stage or on canvas, in concerts or in galleries, it is important that they feel the support of their own communities. Come to a show this season, visit an exhibition or enjoy a concert. When you support our students, faculty and administration you will not only show you care, but you will also become part of the unique experience that is New World School of the Arts.

OUT-OF-THIS WORLD REVIEWS
When James Allerdyce, 2007 BFA Theater alumni, created his one person show MARS: Population 1 as his final college project, he did not suspect it would become a colossal earth-shattering stage phenomenon. The show, which opened for the first time in Miami's Tower Theater, December 2006, was one of the highlights of NWSA's Rising Stars Showcase. Traveling to the Big Apple this summer, Allerdyce presented his show last week as part of the New York International Fringe Festival at the Players Loft. With rave reviews and "four stars" this intriguing one-man-show continues to reach audiences beyond NWSA.
Here's what the critics have to say

Concentrating on social activism, Natasha worked with "Meals on Wheels" this month bringing a new and fresh approach to the campaign. "Natasha has gone above and beyond with her participation in the Fiesta Movement," expressed Katie Spillman, spokesperson for Ford Motor Company. "She is a talented performer and director who has contributed really amazing things to this campaign."

VOICE SUMMER
CAMP SPARKS DREAMS
IN YOUNG ARTISTS This summer, the NWSA Music Division welcomed a half dozen middle school students, to participate in an intensive voice training camp. The summer initiative, headed by opera professor Linda Considine, included one-on-one coaching to the aspiring young singers, most of whom are members of the prestigious Miami Children's Choir. The students had the unique experience of being mentored by a faculty specializing in opera, while developing a bond with an up-and-coming opera college senior. This was of outmost importance to them, explained Victoria Martinez, one of the young singers, "it helped me understand that learning how to sing can take years. Our assistant voice coach is almost ready to graduate college and she still needs to rehearse everyday! I never worked so hard, but I think its worth it." Like many others, this young talent will have to keep practicing those high notes if she is to fulfill her dream of joining NWSA.
