HIGH SCHOOL SPRING CONCERT BOASTS WORLD PREMIER CHOREOGRAPHIES
Staging three World Premiers and two repertoire works from international renowned choreographers, the NWSA Spring Dance Concert, presented by 85 high school students, is dedicated to the memory of Daniel Nagrin. Among the World Premier works is A Green Apple, by Lara Murphy, a piece created for the senior class and inspired by the quote, "The self is simply our work of art, fiction created by the brain in order to make sense of its own disunity." Doubting Thomas, another World Premier, was created for the Junior class by Darshan Singh Bhuller. The choreographer used a painting by Italian Baroque master Caravaggio "The Incredulity of Saint Thomas" as his inspiration. A third World Premier, Pulse/Progression choreographed by Ana Gonzalez, explores the relationship between an internal struggle and a release of freedom to move ahead. Also included in the repertoire are North by Northeast, a sinister Ballet Piece inspired by the music from the films of Alfred Hitchcock, created by NWSA's Gerard Ebitz and Martha Graham's classic creation Acts of Light.

Choreographed by Michael-John Harper, Intro draws an analogy between women and water. Both beautiful and disturbing, the piece was inspired by the female Greek statues at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The piece is interpreted by four female dancers who transport the audience to a "surreal place" through the use of the elements. Intro was presented during the 2009 BFA Dance Concert in February.
