A Center of Excellence in the Visual and Performing Arts, at Miami Dade College - April 2009

YOUR SUPPORT IS VITAL TO OUR SUCCESS
Dear friend,
I'm sure you will agree that NWSA students play an important role in the artistic and cultural development of our city and of our state. Their talent can be appreciated and enjoyed in many venues and happenings, from Arteamericas to the Sony Ericsson Open, and from the American Beauty Performance in St. Louis to Miami-Dade Days in Tallahassee, these young artists are leaving their imprint as they canvass our nation.

Your involvement is crucial to their artistic growth, and your support is a vital source of inspiration. As you take part in our performing and visual arts activities you will be helping us fulfill our mission "... to empower students to become state, national and international leaders in the arts...," securing Florida's rightful place in our nation's arts community.
MICHAEL LOVELAND PRESENTS LOGICAL GESTURES
Michael Loveland, NWSA visual arts faculty and 1991 NWSA alum, presents Logical Gestures, a solo exhibition, during the April Wynwood Art District second Saturday Gallery Walk. Renowned for his works and installations using found objects, Loveland will present his work alongside two other local artists.

Loveland
The show brings together Loveland's newest sculptures that explore the status of the pedestal in contemporary art. Strictly as a tool to present a sculpture, to clarify what is and what is not an art object, and to signify the importance of what is being displayed. The pedestal has been undermined in modern art history since Constantine Brancusi's sculptures of the early 20th century. With these ideas of placement and presentation Loveland's work take's on a new light when made from objects of the every day such as parking curbs, old painted wood signs, and fabrics collected from his world travels. Miami Art Museum recently acquires one of his new works for its permanent collection.

TrelawnyTRELAWNY OF THE WELLS RESONATES WITH STUDENTS
As the final production of the College year, "the relationships, insecurities, and dreams depicted in Arthur Pinero's Trelawny of the Wells resonates strongly in the minds and hearts of NWSA's twenty-two aspirant young graduates" said Andrew Noble, Director of the play at NWSA.

With sublime craftsmanship, and detail, Pinero not only recreates an era of a bygone period when theatre was on the cusp of change, and vividly captures the dreams and struggles of theatre folk, and reveals the artist's eternal quest for innovation. At nineteen, pretty and vivacious actress, Rose Trelawny is the star of the Badnigge Wells Theatre Company. To escape the insecurities of the theatre's "gypsy life", she becomes engaged to Arthur, grandson of Sir William Gower, a prominent judge, and enters the atmosphere of Victorian England's upper class.

Spring dance concert 09COLLEGE SPRING DANCE CONCERT

Other works to be presented are guest choreographer Michael Uthoff's revival piece A Media Luz, originally created for NWSA dancers in 2001. It was inspired by Mr. Uthoff's vision of men and women frolicking on the streets of Chile from the dead of night to the early morning hours. Guest choreographer Josee Garant will premiere a new work call A matter of Pink for Andy. Two master works by Martha Graham Acts of Light and Doris Humphrey's Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor  will close the program.
