MICHAEL LOVELAND PRESENTS LOGICAL GESTURES
Michael Loveland, NWSA visual arts faculty and 1991 NWSA alum, presents Logical Gestures, a solo exhibition, during the April Wynwood Art District second Saturday Gallery Walk. Renowned for his works and installations using found objects, Loveland will present his work alongside two other local artists.
The show brings together Loveland's newest sculptures that explore the status of the pedestal in contemporary art. Strictly as a tool to present a sculpture, to clarify what is and what is not an art object, and to signify the importance of what is being displayed. The pedestal has been undermined in modern art history since Constantine Brancusi's sculptures of the early 20th century. With these ideas of placement and presentation Loveland's work take's on a new light when made from objects of the every day such as parking curbs, old painted wood signs, and fabrics collected from his world travels. Miami Art Museum recently acquires one of his new works for its permanent collection.
Saturday, April 11 - Tuesday, May 5
Tue. - Fri. 10 am - 5 pm; Sat. 10 am - 3 pm
Opening reception: April 11; 7:30 pm - 10 pm
