NWSA RECEIVES $90,000 FROM KNIGHT FOUNDATION
New World School of the Arts ranks among the 31 recipients of the Knight Foundation Arts Partnership grant. The Visual Arts Division will receive $90,000 for two years to fund ARTSEEN, a space to benefit its students and the South Florida community. ARTSEEN will provide New World School of the Arts College students with additional studio space to create and showcase their work. The space will host workshops, art exhibitions, performances, lectures and mentoring programs free and open to the South Florida community.

ALUMNI ART EXHIBITION AND AUCTION RINGS IN THE NEW YEAR WITH $35,000
A much anticipated art exhibition at New World School of the Arts yielded unprecedented success.
With twenty three participating NWSA artists, the Alumni Art Exhibition and Auction proved that loyalty and collaboration can make a great difference, as it raised more than $35,000 from the sale of alumni artwork.
Hundreds of arts enthusiasts and NWSA supporters visited the New World Gallery during the opening reception early last month. The artists, who proudly came back to meet with old friends, teachers and mentors, were delighted to share their work and passion with friends of their Alma Mater.
The Alumni Art Exhibition and Auction will remain open through February 13, at the New World Gallery. 25 NE 2nd Street, downtown Miami.

BRASS ENSEMBLE WINS NATIONAL COMPETITION
The NWSA Brass Ensemble became the winner of the 2008 Brass Grooves Competition. The announcement fromThe Dallas Brass, which praised the six-member band for "demonstrating excellent musicianship", was accompanied with an invitation to perform at the Midway Band Clinic in Chicago during the holidays. Also included was a $1,000 cash prize and a $1,000 gift certificate for Accent Musica instruments, to be used on the band program.

New World School of the Arts proudly congratulates the Florida GATORS for a well deserved victory. It was a hard fought triumph, but UF proved themselves worthy as they went ahead ten points to secure the win and bring home, one more time, the BCS National Championship.

MAKE ART WORK CONTINUES WITH EXPERT ADVISE FROM AWARD-WINNING DUO
The second installment of Make Art Work (MAW), a lecture series at New World School of the Arts, highlights an invaluable dialogue with Tony-Award winning writer, director and actor Frank Galati and director and choreographer Peter Amster.The successful duo will discuss how they've navigated their careers and nurtured their art over the years.
New World School of the Arts' MAW is designed to bring artists and arts professionals together with students and the community for a dialogue in the business of art. NWSA CELEBRATES ITS GOOD FORTUNE AND SUMMONS WISHES OF HEALTH AND PROSPERITY
In celebration of the Year of the Ox, the NWSA Executive and Foundation Boards have graciously organized a series of Progressive Dinners to welcome the Chinese New Year and celebrate the many achievements of this famed conservatory.
An innovative initiative sure to bring good fortune and fun, the buffet dinners will be hosted at the private homes of NWSA supporters in Coconut Grove. A dessert reception at Ransom Everglades Swenson Auditorium, followed by a student performance to wish NWSA a very prosperous, healthy and peaceful New Year, will culminate the evening.

 SAVE THE DATE! 2009 RISING STARS SHOWCASE
On Friday, March 27, NWSA will showcase the talent of its high school and college students in both the performing and visual arts. The Rising Stars showcase is a three-part celebration that begins with an exhibition of artworks by NWSA students followed by a performance of dance, music and theater and concludes with an evening gala in celebration of yet another year of academic and artistic excellence.

Adopt-A-Classroom's tenth anniversary celebration MIAMI'S GOT CLASS? will be filming of a live TV show honoring Miami's Most Memorable teachers on March 7, 2009 in the Design District. Several NWSA Alumni slated to perform including Martin Bejerano, Alex Lacamoire, and Jessica Weiner, and Michelle Martinez. The host for the evening will be Comedian Keegan Michael Key, Star of Mad TV.
