"PEACE ON A NEW DAY" RINGS IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON
The spirit of the holidays will fill the air as New World School of the Arts' High School Choir performs its enchanting Holiday Concert. Audiences of all ages will once again be captivated by popular Christmas selections which this year highlight the theme Peace On A New Day. The one-hour concert musical, under the direction of Albert Clark, Director of Vocal Music for New World School of the Arts, will feature pieces such as the beautiful "Esurientes" by John Rutter from his Magnificat, Jester Hairston's rollicking "Mary's Little Boy Chile," the always popular "Sleigh Ride" (to celebrate Leroy Anderson's 100th birthday!), and such Christmas favorites as "Baby It's Cold Outside," "The Holiday Season," and "I'll Be Home For Christmas."

RETURN TO THE TOWER THEATER
Sixteen graduating seniors from New World School of the Arts' college theater program present One-Person Shows as their B.F.A. Senior Project. Writing, acting and producing their own 20-30 minute piece requires "verve and an abundance of creativity" stated David Kwiat, coordinator of the project at NWSA. Among the eclectic shows are Ashley Olberding's show titled For as Long as We Both...; about Hitler's mistress and later wife, Eva Braun. Betsy Graver's show, Mind, Body and Susan about a woman struggling to accept herself. Elyse Fischer's Piece of my Heart, which is a study on Janice Joplin. Max Danesh's show titled My Friend Jim about Jim Hensen and his friend Kermit. Bethany Pollock's The Adventures of Klondike Kate, homage to the first female Royal Canadian Mountie.

ALUMNI ART AUCTION AND EXHIBITION, DURING ART BASEL
In a remarkable act of loyalty and generosity, NWSA Visual Arts alumni have come together during Art Basel and donated their work to their alma mater for an art auction and exhibition. "We're thrilled at this opportunity. These are all professional artists who are already leaving their mark in the arts world," said Maggy Cuesta, Dean of Visual Arts at NWSA.
Exhibiting artists include: Hernan Bas, Bhakti Baxter, Loriel Beltran, Natalia Benedetti, Tim Buwalda, Alejandro Contreras, Cooper, John Espinosa, Naomi Fisher, Adler Guerrier, Jason Giordano, Jiae Hwang, Joshua Levine, Michael Loveland, Christopher Miro, Martin Oppel, Bert Rodriguez, Raymond Saa, Jen Stark, Alex Sweet, Tasha and Monica (TM Sisters) and Michael Vasquez.

"THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE" JAZZES UP DOWNTOWN MIAMI
Tony Award-winning musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan will be produced by New World School of the Arts' music theater program to celebrate the Holiday season. Directed by guest artist Kim St. Leon, choreographed by guest artist Karin Bejerano with musical direction by Jeff Hess, from the NWSA Theater Division, the production will feature thirty high school music theater students in the cast, accompanied by college and high school students from the music division playing in the orchestra.
"Being given the opportunity to play one of the leading roles in the upcoming production of Modern Millie is a wonderful reward after four years of hard work at New World," said Mariana Leon , a Musicl Theater senior playing the part of Ms. Flannery. "New World has been an amazing journey and a unique learning experience. Modern Millie is a great showcase of our students' talent and the quality of our teachers." Thoroughly Modern Millie takes place in New York City in 1922, and tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. The story is about a time in New York when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever. The musical is based on a popular movie and includes a full score of new songs and great dance numbers. The show played on Broadway in 2002 for 903 performances.

"THE NUTCRACKER"
A HOLIDAY FAVORITE
NOT TO BE MISSED
For more than five years, the New World School of the Arts and the Thomas Armour Youth Ballet have meshed dancers and efforts to present a full length production of holiday favorite, The Nutcracker. Auditions are held in August with rehearsals beginning in September. For the next 12 weeks over 160 dancers are rehearsed simultaneously in four studios of NWSA and the Thomas Armour Youth Ballet.
This year, guest stars from the Pennsylvania Ballet are Riolama Lorenzo (a Miami native) and Sergio Torrado. This is one of the most diverse productions of the Nutcracker in the country, representing the ethnic depth of our community. Saturday, December 6, 7:00 PM

On Friday, March 27, NWSA will showcase the talent of its high school and college students in both the performing and visual arts. The Rising Stars showcase is a three-part celebration that begins with an exhibition of artworks by NWSA students followed by a performance of dance, music and theater and concludes with an evening gala in celebration of yet another year of academic and artistic excellence.
