"P"We are seeing a rise in Palestinian terror activities against Israelis and we attribute it to the Palestinian Authority's practice of agitating and giving a green light to such terrorist acts. PA leaders do not present a uniform, reliable position; they issue public condemnations but only in English and to the foreign press; the internal messages intended for their own people contradict the messages conveyed to the international community."

Danny Ayalon, Deputy Foreign Minister

TERRORISM
Jerusalem blast: Man's vigilance saves lives
One of the wounded in Wednesday's terror attack called police after spotting a suspicious object near a bus station, possibly saving civilian lives and minimizing the number of casualties in Jerusalem.
The man, David Amoyal, informed police, but call was interrupted by the explosion that killed a 59-yea-old woman and wounded 38, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said.
"He saw a suspicious bag and told some youths who were nearby to stay away while he called police," said Barkat after arriving a the Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Kerem. "During his call, the device went off. If he had a little more time, it's possible that there would be fewer casualties."
The mayor added that Amoyal needed only a few more minutes to clear the area of civilians. "I applaud his efforts, it shows that everyone needs to be alert."

MOUNT OF OLIVES
US, Israeli leaders fight to protect desecrated ancient cemetery in east Jerusalem A wide patch of steep hillside overlooking Jerusalem's Old City holds row after row of graves. Biblical prophets, revered rabbis and a prime minister are buried there. Yet many of the tombstones have been smashed, litter is strewn around and tethered donkeys defecate on top of graves. The ancient cemetery is just one point of contention in the struggle for control of Jerusalem, an explosive issue in decades of Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.
Israelis and American Jewish leaders are demanding that the Israeli government increase protection to ensure that those buried on the Mount of Olives can rest in peace. Read more

ROCKETS
Rockets explode in Ashdod, Sderot
A Qassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in an open area in Sderot Thursday. There were no reports of injuries or damage.
Earlier on Thursday, a rocket alarm was sounded in Ashdod and neighboring towns following fire from the Gaza Strip. One rocket apparently exploded in open spaces in the city.
Roughly 30 minutes later, a Qassam rocket landed in the Eshkol Regional Council. No injuries or damage were reported.
Sderot Mayor David Buskila visited the rocket landing site. "This rocket brings the focus back to Sderot," he said but noted there were no plans to cancel any scheduled events in the city. Buskila called on residents to remain vigilant.

EGYPT
Egypt Air removes Israel from map Egypt Air, the largest airline in Egypt, has removed Israel from the map - literally. On its website, Ynet has learned, Jordan's land reaches the Mediterranean Sea. The airline's subsidiary, Air Sinai, flies to Israel regularly, but customers seeking flights to Ben Gurion National Airport will have a hard time finding them. On the map are the names of the Mideast capitals - Amman, Beirut, and Damascus - but Israel is nowhere to be found. Read more

Kiss rocker Gene Simmons back in Israel after 51 years
52 years after leaving Israel as the impoverished nine-year-old son of a survivor of the Auschwitz death camp, Chaim Witz returned to his birth country this week under different circumstances - as mega-millionaire rock star and TV personality Gene Simmons.
"It's amazing to be back here," said the outspoken 61-year-old co-founder of rock legends Kiss on Tuesday in Jerusalem's David Citadel Hotel where his entourage has taken over eight rooms. Simmons is still adept at the Hebrew he learned as a child and responded in a broad American accent to a question of whether he still spoke the language, "Ken, aval shachachti hatzi safa (Yes, but I've forgotten half the language)."

Dear Reuters, You Must Be Kidding
This is from a Reuters story on the Jerusalem bombing earlier today: Police said it was a "terrorist attack" -- Israel's term for a Palestinian strike. It was the first time Jerusalem had been hit by such a bomb since 2004. Those Israelis and their crazy terms! I mean, referring to a fatal bombing of civilians as a "terrorist attack"? Who are they kidding? Everyone knows that a fatal bombing of Israeli civilians should be referred to as a "teachable moment." Or as a "venting of certain frustrations." Or as "an understandable reaction to Jewish perfidy." Or perhaps as "a very special episode of 'Cheers.'" Anything but "a terrorist attack." I suppose Reuters will mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11 by referring to the attacks as "an exercise in urban renewal." The mind reels.
