October is upon us...

I'm not sure what happened to September, as it seems to have swept by in a blur, but the leaves are falling, the breeze is chilly and although I'm ready to settle down with a warm bowl of soup, there is so much fun to be had before we burrow in any deeper!

There are some amazing events happening over the next few weeks and I encourage you to get out and about to enjoy the crisp leaves, delightful colors, and neighborhood fun before the insanity of the next series of vacations and holidays sneak up on us!

Grab your favorite sweater, a stroller or perhaps some bikes, and a cup of cider and get going!

Caramoor Cavalcade

Caramoor Cavalcade
Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2009

Caramoor Cavalcade offers perhaps the most informal opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy good music and good times in relaxed settings throughout Caramoor.  The three events during the afternoon range from hilarious to serene and present a terrific opportunity for adults to introduce young people and youngsters to delightful live music experiences at affordable prices.

The afternoon begins at 1pm with Polygraph Lounge in the Spanish Courtyard at the center of the historic Rosen House.  The off-the-wall antics of the wild duo of Rob Schwimmer and Mark Stewart will fascinate audiences with their stage full of homemade instruments and original music.

The action moves to the Tapestry Hedge at 2:30pm for Fun With Words and Music.  Bassist Robert Black and friends offer new spins on classic stories retold through the words and music of Jon Deak, including such tales as The Ugly Duckling and Lucy and the Count (Love Dreams from Transylvania).

Caramoor Cavalcade concludes with Music in the Air, a program of French music in our Sunken Garden at 4:00pm.  Flutist Mindy Kaufman, violist Leslie Tomkins, and harpist June Han will perform.

Tickets for Caramoor Cavalcade are $15 and may be purchased online at www.caramoor.org or at the Box Office at 914.252.1252.  Caramoor is located at 149 Girdle Ridge Road in Katonah, New York.

Neuberger

Family First Saturday @ the Neu
Saturday, October 3, 2009
Neuberger Museum of Art | Purchase College

Make family time creative during Family First Saturday at the Neuberger Museum of Art with gallery talks designed for children and adults, face painting, art workshops for children, and live music by Purchase College Conservatory of Music students and alumni.

The theme, Look at You! Self-Portraits, draws from the current exhibition British Subjects: Identity and Self-Fashioning 1967-2009. The gallery talks, designed for an intergenerational audience, focus on self-portraiture. Children then apply what they've experienced as they create their own self-portraits in an art workshop run by teaching artist Kaiti Biolchini. Purchase College Conservatory of Music alum Gregory Baldwin will play acoustic Beatles music while children change their identity through face painting.
Art workshops are for children ages 5-10 (siblings welcome) and are not drop-off. Gallery talks are for all ages.

Art workshops: 1-4 pm, Gallery talks: 1-3 pm, Face painting and music: 2:30-4 pm.  Museum admission is free for all visitors 12-5 pm.  The Museum is located at 735 Anderson Hill Road in Purchase, 914-251-6100,
