Feed Me Fresh
Feed Me Fresh

You may have noticed my not-so-subtle hints or links to save the dates, invites, etc. as my favorite fall event draws near and thought, gee that sounds GREAT...but in your end of summer, getting ready for back to school rush, you suddenly find yourself realizing that it's September 10th already...well, don't worry, it's not too late -- the time is NOW to grab your tickets for Feed Me Fresh, An Edible Evening before the September 14th deadline!  Do not get left out of the fun this year.

Feed Me Fresh, An Edible Evening benefits the Mount Kisco Child Care Center and is the absolute best, and most FUN, fundraiser of the year!  You'll sample local foods from fantastic local restaurants, farm specialties, and more.  The food is FANTASTIC, the crowd is casual, young, and ready for a good time, the music and decorations are always a first-rate experience, and the setting is perfect, overlooking the beautiful Westchester countryside as the sun sets on Guard Hill Road in Bedford Corners.

More seriously though, this is an organization near and dear to my heart. They provide an AMAZING service to the families of our county, and in particular to those families who cannot afford quality child care on their own.  Mount Kisco Child Care allows parents to go off to work with the knowledge that their children are being well cared for, while also receiving an important start to their future education.  The Feed Me Fresh fundraiser supports their scholarship program as well as their Feed Me Fresh curriculum which teaches the children and their families about healthy nutrition and lifestyles, allowing children of all income levels to receive the very best in care while their parents work.

Homestead Country Fair Weekend

The Homestead Country Fair Weekend is the highlight of the Friends' annual schedule of events, drawing more area families to John Jay Homestead State Historic Site than on any other occasion. The goal of the Fair, which takes place on the Homestead grounds on Sunday, September 20 from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., is to showcase the site as a valuable educational resource for the community. Its historically themed activities include tree sawing contests, pony rides, arts and crafts, wagon rides, and programs include beekeeping, broom making, live animal petting zoo, and falconry. Also included are live music, face painting, a bake sale, and a homemade apple pie contest. Admission is $20 per car, with ticket sales for various activities.

Of special interest this year will be the 5th New York, "Fighting on Neutral Ground" which recreate military skirmishes and marching drills, as well as demonstrating routine aspects of military life during the Revolutionary War. Gene Sheninger will also be returning with his dogs to provide sheep and duck herding demonstrations. Click here to view the 2009 Country Fair schedule of events.

The Barn Dance, which takes place the previous evening on September 19, from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., also attracts many families. It is an important fundraiser for Homestead educational and restoration programs, and the perfect kick-off for the Fair. This event includes an informal barbecue, ice cream sundaes, kids arts and crafts, a raffle and silent auction, and music by local bands. Admission is $15 - $200 per person. Wine/beer cash bar.
