Fireworks!  Family Concerts!  Al Fresco Events!  Dancing At Dusk!  Caramoor International Music Festival 2009!

caramoorThis year Caramoor has many special opportunities for families to enjoy great music, good fun, and quality time together during the 2009 Caramoor International Music Festival.

Dancing at Dusk

On Wednesday evenings during the summer (pre-Festival on June 3, during the Festival on July 1, and post-Festival on August 5) beginning at 5:00pm, families are invited to come to Caramoor for Dancing at Dusk, evenings of family fun with the kids.  Bring a picnic, spread out a blanket, and enjoy great music as children of all ages can dance to live music, interact with musicians, get to know the instruments being played, and ask questions.  Dancing at Dusk provides a relaxing and joyous opportunity for young people to discover music.  At only $20 per car, Caramoor's Dancing at Dusk is one of the most affordable family opportunities available anywhere.

From Pyrotechnics to Prokofiev

Caramoor's Independence Day concert, Saturday, July 4 at 8:00pm, will end with a spectacular display of fireworks.  The concert in the Venetian Theater, Pops, Patriots & Fireworks, features Broadway and concert star Darius de Haas along with the Orchestra of St. Luke's, conducted by Michael Barrett, for a celebration of great American music, including favorite Alan Menken hits from beloved Disney films, marches by John Philip Sousa, and music by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and other greats.  Following the concert, families will gather on the lawn for a dazzling display of pyrotechnics in the evening sky.  Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available on the picnic lawns and children under 12 will be admitted for half price!

On Saturday, July 25 at 4:00pm, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, conducted by Michael Barrett, will perform Prokofiev's masterpiece of music and storytelling, Peter and the Wolf.   Eric Satie's brief and zany Sports and Divertisements kicks off this afternoon, exploring the musical worlds of tennis, golf, yachting, and even the picnic, in this concert in the Venetian Theater appropriate for ages 6 and up.  There will be a simultaneous program performed for children under the age of 6:  a special age-appropriate Peter and the Wolf of their own.

Caramoor Al Fresco

Al Fresco Sundays offer opportunities for families to enjoy the sounds of selected Venetian Theater concerts from the lawn and picnic areas at Caramoor, ideal for youngsters who may be unlikely to sit still for an entire performance under the big tent.  Tickets for these events, Sunday afternoons at 4:30pm, are only $10:
June 28 - Tiempo Libre
July 5 - Pacifica Quartet with Jeremy Denk
July 12 - Brentano String Quartet
July 19 - Paquito D'Rivera and Cuban Jazz
July 26 - Vladimir Feltsman
