The days when breakfast was at noon after a late night may seem like a lifetime ago, but your head feels the same as you groggily awake at 6am, greeted by tiny freezing toes being snuggled under you to warm up. While the first moments might pain you, the little whispers in your ear, the tiny fingers prying your eyes open, and the giggles under the covers eventually make up for the lack of sleep.
On this day of all days, if the breakfast in bed isn't perfectly cooked, if the beautiful hand painted picture of you shows that you have four eyes and gray hair, and if you're dreams of a day off from parenting at a luxurious spa turns out to be more like lunch at McDonald's, remember that Mother's Day is really about reflecting on this crazy job of ours -- we may not receive awards, you may not always feel valued or thanked, but those little smiles, the cavalier way that the kids plunk down in your lap like they own it, and the kisses and snuggles that warm your heart all make this job worthwhile.
