The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss

Followed by a fun seed planting activity

Learn about "The Lorax", a creature who teaches the importance of taking care of the environment and the dangers of chopping down the beautiful "Truffula Trees" near his home until sadly there are none left.  In the end, the greedy Once-ler who has chopped down the trees recounts the story to a little boy and reveals that he has one last Truffula seed left which he gives him to start a new forest.

Children will be invited to plant a seed and decorate their seed containers to take home.

Join The Guidance Center for dining, dancing and fun at our annual benefit gala.  On June 10, 2009, new and old friends will connect to enjoy a night out and contribute to the good work of The Guidance Center.  Proceeds from the gala and auction will provide crucial funding for The Guidance Center's services.

Help us celebrate our successes and plan for the future at the beautiful Glen Island Harbour Club, overlooking the Long Island Sound in New Rochelle. We will be honoring Kathy Hagendorf, immediate past president of The Guidance Center's Board of Directors; Daphne Merkin, contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine and Elle, for her candor on mental health issues; and Ben Gordon, Chicago Bulls, for his commitment to youth in the Mount Vernon community.  WCBS Anchor Mary Calvi will serve as emcee. Scott R. Trepel, of the Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries, will serve as auctioneer.

The Guidance Center helps thousands of Westchester County residents each year.  The Guidance Center is an innovative community-based nonprofit organization that promotes the well-being of individuals and families across the county. From young children to senior citizens, The Guidance Center's caring, professional staff helps members of our community overcome psychological, social and cultural hurdles. Since 1942, The Guidance Center has developed six interconnected areas of program expertise - early childhood education, school-based programs, substance abuse treatment, vocational training, supported housing and mental health services - to offer community members a path to a brighter future.
