Trek our Trails Hike-a-thon to Benefit Teatown
Teatown Lake Reservation, an 834-acre nature preserve and education center, will hold its first Trek our Trails Hike-a-thon on Saturday, April 18, 2009, as an Earth Day celebration.
The event will bring together hikers of all ages to enjoy 15 miles of trails and raise funds to support Teatown's environmental education programs, the care of its nature preserve, and regional conservation efforts throughout the Hudson Hills and Highlands. The day begins at 8:00am with breakfast snacks and a pre-hike stretch, and concludes at 2:00pm with a post hike celebration. The Hike-a-thon will take place at Teatown Lake Reservation, which is located at 1600 Spring Valley Rd., off of Route 134, in Ossining, New York.
Hikers of all ages and abilities may participate in an easy walk around Teatown Lake, moderate and intermediate hikes, or a more challenging half-day trek for the advanced hiker. Upon completion of their hike, participants are invited back to Teatown's Nature Center (from 11am-2pm) for an Earth Day celebration that includes music, bird of prey shows, giveaways, and more. Registration and participant check-in begins at 7:30am on Saturday, April 18, the day of the Hike-a-thon. The participation fee is $25 individuals, $50 families and $200 for teams. Pledging is optional, but as a fundraiser, sponsorship is encouraged. Business and corporate teams are welcome.
All walkers and hikers, including children, may register on-line at Teatown's web site: www.teatown.org, where they will find registration forms, pledges sheets, a Q&A sheet, event day details, sponsorship information, and more. Individuals may also call (914) 762-2912, ext. 124 or visit Teatown in person. All contributions to the Trek our Trails Hike-a-thon are tax-deductible. | |
