New Family Events @ the Neu September - December 2008 Neuberger Museum of Art | Purchase College
Eyes on Art: Saturdays, 1 - 3 pm
Led by teaching artist Andrea Guttman, children ages 8-10 (accompanied by an adult) closely observe works on view and learn to train their eyes and trust their instincts when looking at art. The program continues with a hands-on art workshop that responds directly to participants' discoveries in the exhibition Reframing American Art: Selections from the Roy R. Neuberger Collection. Each month explores a new theme and art-making technique. $10/child, free for Museum Family Members. Reservations required in advance: 914.251.6113. Space is limited to 30 participants. Not a drop-off program. Attend one or many! September 20: Landscapes and Places Mood, climate, season, time of day and location are observed and discussed followed by a landscape workshop utilizing basic printmaking/monoprint techniques. October 18: Who Are These People? Observing the narrative quality of a painting, participants conjure up a short story depicted by one of the figurative paintings. Learn how to make relief painting constructions of the made-up stories, using corrugated cardboard and other materials. November 15: Forms in Sculptures Form and space are explored through observation, discussion and sketches, followed by a sculpture workshop using recycled and found objects. December 13: Colors Everywhere Learn about the use of color in paintings and works on paper through conversation, interactive activities in the gallery, followed by an oil pastel art project that ends with a gallery hunt.
