As the fall starts to loom in the distance I begin to feel the dread slowly creeping into my carefree summer existence. 
 
That is, until I start to think of the fun to be had as the days get crisp, people come back into town, and Westchester comes alive again with friends greeting one another after the summer.  I always look forward to the fall events as a way to re-engage with friends we haven't seen and as a time to reflect on the many reasons that we live in beautiful Westchester County.

John Jay Barn Dance & Country Fair
 
chickenBarn Dance. Saturday, September 13, 4 to 9 p.m. The Barn Dance is a family event featuring live music, a delicious barbeque, making your own sundae, children's crafts and swimming pig races! Admission for adults ranges from $50 to $200 per person; children are $15.
 
Country Fair
. Sunday, September 14, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Family fair features swimming pig races, pony rides, wagon rides, a visit from Dillon's Irish Regiment, falconry, petting zoo, arts & crafts, magician, face painting and much more. Live music and great food available. Admission: $20 per carload, which includes a house tour.

Bedford Village Treasure Hunt & Pig Roast on the Green
  
Saturday, September 6, 2008.  Grand Opening of the Bedford Store, new home of the Bedford Historical Socety.  Treasure Hunt: 12 noon to 4pm.  Family walking tour of historic buildings & landmarks on the Village Green with 'treasures' for children to collect.  Revolutionary War re-enactors will march on the Green, fire a cannon, and 'drill' children with toy muskets.  Traditional silhouette artist will hand cut children's portraits in minutes at the 1829 School House.  Colonial games for children, pony rides, visit the fire house and ring the old school bell at the Library.  Family Pig Roast & Live Music at 4pm.  At Historical Hall and on the Village Green.  Adults: $35, kids 5-12 yrs $10, under 5 free.  Limited space, to reserve call 914.234.9751, or visit www.bedfordhistoricalsociety.org

ThistleWaithe Learning Center, Inc., a Montessori preschool currently based in Mount Kisco, is pleased to announce openings in its Toddler program for the 2008-09 school year.
 
If your child is between 18 and 36 months of age, and you are searching for a whole-child, differentiated early learning experience, ThistleWaithe offers a half-day program that enables each little one to explore and investigate their world in a safe and loving environment.  ThistleWaithe builds the foundations for a young child's joyful, passionate, and life-long pursuit of learning. 
 
Intriguing and inviting classroom materials and a highly trained, experienced staff meet the social, emotional, cognitive, and gross and fine motor needs of each child.  Toddlers also enjoy weekly music classes and introductory Spanish.
 
ThistleWaithe is currently located at the Fountain of Eternal Life Church at 720 East Main Street in Mount Kisco and will remain in this wonderful interim location until the 2009-10 school year.  In September 2009, ThistleWaithe will welcome families to its own facility at the current Hayloft Motel site on Route 35 in South Salem.
