What to do with the kids during the school break? |
Head to the Neuberger Museum for "DayBreaks"
If your kids have a case of cabin fever, it's time to channel their energy and head over to the Neuberger Museum of Art where an entertaining afternoon of storytelling, creativity, and fun await them.
TODAY, Thursday, February 21, from 1 to 3 pm, Abike Jotayo, award-winning storyteller, cultural historian, and poet will enthrall one and all with African folktales and historical stories that inform and entertain. Abike uses art, and traditional and contemporary stories of Africa's oral tradition as a way of disseminating and preserving Africa's oral traditions. "In our tradition, storytellers were the first teachers," she says. Her program will involve the audience for she believes theater is a great learning tool. A hands-on workshop will be led by artist Andrea Guttman.
This dynamic presentation is ideal for kids ages 4 to 8, who must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are required. Please call: 914-251-6113. Admission: $8 children (includes workshop materials); $3 adults. Free to adult members of the Museum.
The Neuberger Museum of Art | Purchase College is located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, NY. Visit www.neuberger.org for more information and directions. |

Easter & Passover Project
Spring is right around the corner and so is the Easter & Passover Project at Friends of Karen. The Westchester-based charity, which serves catastrophically ill children and their families throughout the New York metropolitan area, is seeking donations of chocolate Easter bunnies and cash donations to underwrite the cost of fresh citrus fruit for Passover. Gift cards to A&P, McDonald's and Dunkin' Donuts and cash donations are also welcome. The chocolate bunnies should be wrapped and sealed.
Please drop off all items by Monday, March 10 at Friends of Karen, 118 Titicus Road, Purdys, NY. Call Denise Tredwell, Volunteer Coordinator, at 914/617-4052 for more information.
Friends of Karen, now in its 30th year, provides financial, emotional and advocacy support for families struggling with the devastating effects of their child's life-threatening illness. Each and every day, Friends of Karen helps about 250 sick children and their families -- children critically ill with cancer, leukemia, brain tumors and other catastrophic diseases.
