Getting to Know Senior Pitcher James Smith
James Smith
What draws you to baseball?  What makes it appealing to you?  What is special about the college game?
"What makes baseball appealing to me are the special moments. This past year in professional baseball has made me appreciate the game so much more than it ever has. Seeing MoneyBall and watching the playoffs, and the World Series has made me love the game. I love watching college baseball because of the players desire to win. I love the cohesion that occurs within a team, then seeing them play together in sync. I love the brotherhood aspect of the game; when team chemistry translates into winning, it is a beautiful thing."
University of the Pacific to Join WCC in 2013-2014
The West Coast Conference announced Thursday that the University of the Pacific has formally accepted an invitation to join the WCC on July 1, 2013, for the 2013-14 academic year. Pacific was one of five founding members of the WCC (then the California Basketball Association) in 1952-53 and remained in the Conference until 1971.

"We would like to welcome the University of Pacific back to the West Coast Conference. We look forward to rekindling that rivalry in so many of our sports," said Santa Clara Athletic Director Dan Coonan. "I also look forward to having Dr. Ted Leland in the WCC.  I have a great deal of respect for who he is, what he presents and all he has done."
