Bike Month 2012
Celebrate May as National Bike Month
Join the City of Greenville throughout the month of May for a variety of bike-friendly events to keep you pedaling safe and smart. Spring is in the air and it's a wonderful time of year to explore our City by bike.
Whether you're enjoying one of our many greenway trails, complete streets, or special events, Bikeville is here to help you go by bike.
Bicycling is a fun way to get work, save money on gas, combine exercise with transportation, spend time with your family, explore neighborhoods, and show your support for the environment.
Consider this, for every mile you cycle, you can keep 3.6 lbs of automobile pollutants from entering the air and atmosphere. The Federal Highway Administration estimates that 60 percent of all automobile trips are under five miles in distance. Short car trips (0-5 miles) are the most polluting.
Whether you are searching for a bike safety class, community bike ride, or free bike valet service at the USA Cycling Professional Championship weekend, Bikeville and it's partners have a diverse and exciting calendar of events scheduled.
National Bike Challenge
Join fellow bicyclists in Greenville and across the country during Bike Month for the Get Up & Ride : National Bike Challenge. This advocacy initiative aims to inspire and empower millions of Americans to ride their bikes for transportation, recreation and better health.
The Challenge is simple: Sign up as an individual or as a team, log your miles, share your stories and encourage others to join you. Riders will compete for prizes and awards on the local and national level, including a Grand Prize trip through California wine country from Trek Travel. www.endomondo.com/campaign/national

City Launches Mobile Interactive Map
Walkers, runners and cyclists can now experience the Swamp Rabbit Trail in a whole new way with the Swamp Rabbit Trail Interactive Map, which the City of Greenville recently launched on its web site.
The new map was inventoried, photographed and developed by the City, with support from the Greenville County Recreation District, and features trail amenities, on-street bicycle facilities, points of interest, as well as special considerations for a safe experience.
Photos, IPIX 360 degree images and audio are available at select locations. The web map is accessible from a Windows browser and a free mobile app, ArcGIS, is available for download from the iTunes and Google Play stores for mobile access.

Bikeville's E-newsletter
Bikeville is the City of Greenville's bicycle friendly community initiative. The goal of Bikeville is to increase ridership, encourage bicycle use, expand bicycling facilities, and provide useful educational resources to bicyclists and motorists.
The City of Greenville has been designated a Bronze "Bicycle Friendly Community" by the League of American Bicyclists and is actively pursuing several bicycling and greenway trail projects to increase mobility throughout our community.
Our E-Newsletter provides updates and information about our ongoing efforts to encourage bicycling and walking for recreation and transportation. You've received this e-newsletter because you've either signed up on the City's Website, requested information in the past regarding bicycling or greenway projects or signed-up at one of our recent events.
The City uses this format to provide periodic updates about various bicycle infrastructure and greenway projects and events.
We look forward to sharing a lot of exciting information with you as we work to make the City of Greenville a more bicycle and pedestrian friendly community!
