City of GreenvilleIssue No. 1
Project One and Piazza Bergamo Updates
Greenville City Logo

Construction is well underway on the Project One development at the corner of Washington and Main Streets, and the contractor, Brasfield and Gorrie, is reaching an important milestone in the construction process. The Project One buildings will be made out of poured in place concrete, and in order to add the actual material to the buildings, the contractor must install forms, pour wet concrete into the forms and allow it to harden over several days. To this end, Brasfield and Gorrie will be making several concrete pours between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. starting in January and lasting through June.

Any time construction takes place in a tight urban environment such as our downtown, juggling schedules and spaces is often challenging. By performing this operation when pedestrian and vehicular traffic is at its lowest level, it will be much safer and less disruptive to vehicular and pedestrian traffic and will ensure that daytime access is maintained for downtown businesses and residents.

We realize that this process may cause some disruption, but please be assured that we are working with the contractor to identify ways to minimize the impact on downtown residents as much as possible.

For your reference, we are providing you with a copy of Brasfield and Gorrie's concrete pour schedule as of January 12, 2012. Please note that in most instances there is only one pour scheduled per week, and it is not every week.

In addition to providing an update on construction of the Project One development, we would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to a Piazza Bergamo Public Meeting on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 5:30 PM at the Hughes Main Library, located at 25 Heritage Green Place. At the meeting, we will unveil the new design plan for Piazza Bergamo, so we hope you will make plans to join us.

Thank you for your patience as we work to create an exciting new destination for downtown Greenville. Please feel free to contact the following with any questions you may have:

The meeting is the first of three public sessions that will help determine the Greenville Zoo's Master Plan for the next 15 - 20 years. The master planning committee, along with PJA Architects + Landscape Architects, will use the meetings as an opportunity to develop several concepts for a possible future layout of the Greenville Zoo.

The City has also developed an online survey as an additional opportunity for the public to provide input on the future of the Greenville Zoo. To download the survey, visit the City's website at www.greenvillesc.gov or the Greenville Zoo's website at www.greenvillezoo.com.
