Hello from Christ Church Westshore -
WOW! The year is moving quickly!
The Christmas decorations are all stowed away (I hope!) and we're well into the Valentine's Day candy. It's World Mission Sunday and the Bay Women's Club Antique Show this weekend. Ash Wednesday comes along on February 22 and our Middle School kids head out for their annual ski weekend in a week. Christ Church is up and rolling along (merrily, merrily !!).
Ash Wednesday is next week also. Check out the Looking Towards Lent section below for important service times and other events. We're not doing the Lenten Soup Suppers as we have in years past or putting our current Wednesday study groups on hiatus for a special Lenten study. But we still have a variety of ways you can focus on this penitential season as you prepare yourself spiritually for Jesus' passion on Good Friday and His Glorious Resurrection on Easter. We hope you take advantage of these opportunities, or perhaps invite some friends to join you once a week in your own home for a simple meal, fellowship and devotional time. Gene, Bob and Sean will be happy to provide some suggestions for books or devotional guides that you could use.
We hope to see all of you at one of our three Ash Wednesday services this week.
Blessings!

TableTalk
This Sunday is our annual World Mission Sunday where our focus, once again, will be on taking the good news of Jesus to the world: à la Acts 1:8 (And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in Judea, and in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth).
Growing up at Truro we celebrated World Mission Sunday at this same time of year - the last Sunday of Epiphany, where every single Mission agency, missionary, and outreach that we were involved with at Truro was represented. We often had one of our missionaries preach and we would find ourselves self evaluating our personal, local, national, and international mission initiatives. It became one of the Sundays that all of us looked forward to participating in as the Lord always "recharged our batteries" and reminded us that the Good News is not something to be hidden with the world, but rather to be shared through our words and actions!
This year our World Mission Sunday will be different from year's past as we are sharing our space with the Bay Women's Club as they host their annual Antique Show on Sunday Feb. 19th. Because the Antique Show will occupy the entire High School, we will not be having Discipleship Hour, and there will be no childcare offered during the 10 a.m. service. The children will worship the Lord with their parents in a service of Morning Prayer (from Common Worship) just like our Anglican services were 75 - 100 years ago (service lasts approx. 1 hour).
Therefore, I encourage all in the Christ Church community to come, bring your little ones (perhaps with an activity book or two) as we explore how Paul, Silas, Timothy, and Luke take the Gospel to Greece in the ancient city of Philippi (Acts 16:11 - 15)! Afterwards, grab a cup of coffee and go out "into the world" by checking out the Antique Show! This is a wonderful opportunity for us as the Lord himself is bringing the world to our doorstep! My prayer this World Mission Sunday would be that we would be a blessing this Sunday as well as throughout the year; and, be open to how we might share the story of Jesus with the world that is right next door!
I'll see you on Sunday!
Faithfully yours,
Gene | |

The Bay Directory
The Bay Directory is underway!
As you know, we have published the Bay Village Directory every two years for 60 years as a service to our community and as a fundraiser for the church. We retained the right to continue publication the the Directory and it is eagerly anticipated by all of Bay Village. The initial mailing has gone out to the community so that residents can confirm their inclusion in the 2012-2013 edition and the responses have already started to come in.
A key part of the fundraising is the advertising, not just by Bay Village businesses, but also those in surrounding communities. We need volunteers who are enthusiastic and energetic and willing to be part of this vital step of soliciting advertisers for the Directory.
Please talk with Mike Johnston or Linda Jackson if you would like to be part of the advertising team. This is a crucial year for the Directory and all assistance will be gratefully welcomed!
Malley's Candy
Easter Fundraiser
Carroll Middlemiss has generously offered to piggy-back Christ Church in the Malley's candy fundraiser that Little Learner's runs every spring. The benefit proceeds of the purchases by Christ Church members will come to Christ Church.
Carroll will be at a table in "Grand Narthex" on Sunday February 26 and Sunday March 4 with order forms. (Not this Sunday because of the Antique Show.) We'll also have order forms in the church office.
Please put on your "Easter Bunny' thinking cap and start to plan your Easter baskets now to take advantage of this opportunity.
Thanks, Miss Carroll and Little Learner's
for letting us join the fun and fundraising!
(Love those chocolate eggs and jelly beans!)

Looking Toward Lent
Christ Church Westshore will have a variety of events and services during Lent, leading up to Holy Week. Some of which will be held in conjunction with Bay Presbyterian Church, a wonderful opportunity to worship alongside fellow Christians who have been so generous and welcoming.
We know both congregations will be blessed by the collaboration.
Ash Wednesday February 22 7:30 a.m. Communion with Imposition of Ashes - Auburn Hall, BPC
10:30 a.m. Communion with Imposition of Ashes - Auburn Hall, BPC
7:30 p.m. Combined Service with BPC Communion with Imposition of Ashes BPC Sanctuary Nursery care will be available
Shrove Tuesday ? Pancake Supper ??
Consider inviting your neighbors to join you for a pancake supper in your home on Tuesday, February 21st as you follow the old Anglican Shrove Tuesday tradition of ridding the house of "luxury items" such as eggs and fat in preparation for the penitential season of Lent. (May not want to include that explanation in the invitation, but it could be interesting trivia to discuss over pancakes and sausage!)
