Hello from Christ Church Westshore -
It's February! And what a wacky winter it's been! Warmer temperatures, less snow, more rain! God has blessed our transition in so many ways and a mild winter (so far!) is just one part of that. What a blessing for our trailer crews as they have adjusted and refined their procedures from a small trailer to a medium trailer to a LARGE trailer and from many, many plastic bins on little pull carts to large carpet-covered "crates" that roll easily. WOW! What a job they have done and continue to do! (Although this Sunday may present new challenges, based on the weather predictions.)
The other major adjustment has been working with our friends at Bay Pres as we schedule our events, find the right rooms, remember to book the chairs and tables, etc. They have been gracious, accommodating and oh so welcoming. When you see any of your Bay Pres friends as you are out and about on your daily errands, be sure to thank them. We wouldn't have been able to move ahead as quickly (and relatively easily) as we have without their prayers and support.
You'll all have the opportunity to get to know the Bay Pres folks better as we worship in combined services on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. They are excited about being with us and we with them; they will be a wonderful and meaningful times. So mark you calendars! Ash Wednesday is just around the corner - February 22nd! We will have services at 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., and a combined service at 7:30 p.m.
Blessing to all the Christ Church Westshore family!

TableTalk
This is one of my favorite times of the week when I have the opportunity to sit down at my keyboard and imagine that you and I are seated at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, and we discuss the issues that matter most in our lives!
This week I'd like to discuss all of the various ways that communication happens and the different technologies that we employ to "get the word out" regarding our lives together.
First, there is our website: www.christchurchwestshore.com
Here, you can find most everything you want to know about Christ Church. We update the website every week and have found that most newcomers today discover us by visiting our website. The most important advertising that we have today is an up to date, easily usable website. I encourage you to visit it today!
Second, the e-Newsletter. This simple email is delivered to your email address every Friday with the news for the upcoming weekend and week ahead. Please let your friends know to sign up to receive the e-Newsletter!
Third, The Christ Church Westshore Facebook & Twitter page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Christ-Church-Westshore/
We update this status most everyday with reflections, comments, announcements, and videos. If you're on Facebook, make sure you make Christ Church a Friend! We also have a Twitter page at gshermancc - come follow us!
Finally, I encourage you to visit my new Blog, at http://gshermanblog.wordpress.com Here I post thoughts that will assist you in your daily walk with the Lord, as well as comment on topics relevant to the Christian life and Anglican World. In addition, I post the Sermon Text for the week every Thursday, and on Monday some reflection questions for you to consider in addition, so that we all might consider how the Lord spoke to on us on Sunday!
As you can see, we are working hard to make sure that the word spreads in a 21st century way in order to make disciples, and follow Jesus Christ as the church in Acts did! My prayer that through our use of these tools - we will fulfill here on the Westshore our Lord's command as we are studying in Acts to be his witnesses here, and in the surrounding area, and to the world!
I'll see you Sunday!

Children's Ministry News
Our congregation has grown tremendously in the short amount of time that we've been at Bay High School. The Lord has drawn several families with preschoolers, toddlers, and babies. In order to better care for our little ones, we will be organizing Sunday childcare into four separate areas:
- Infants and babies will be in the first sectioned area.
- Toddlers will be housed in the second section.
- Preschoolers will be along the back corridor just beyond the gym.
All of these children will be provided with a nurturing and structured time of play, Bible lesson, song, and snack. We are also introducing "Grandma Time"' with the babies. "Grandmas" are needed to hold the babies, read books to the babies, and to feed the babies in the nursery during the 9 o'clock Discipleship Hour and the 10 o'clock worship service. This will be scheduled on a weekly or monthly rotation depending on the number of volunteers.
During Discipleship Hour the elementary age children will be in one of the corners of the Cafeteria for BibleSong. The middle school children (h2h) and high school kids (H2H) also meet in their designated areas in the Cafeteria.
The elementary school children will return to the cafeteria for Children's Chapel during the 10 o'clock worship service for a kid-size message based on the Scripture from which Gene will be preaching.
Volunteers for every week are needed as follows: Registration table host/hostess at entrance of the children's area, 'Grandmas', 2 helpers in infant/babies area, 2 helpers in toddler area, 2 helpers in preschool area. Also needed are additional volunteers to teach BibleSong and children's chapel for elementary school children.
Please prayerfully consider filling the vacancies the Lord has opened up for our growing congregation. These positions of need are in addition to the schedule of volunteers / staff already in place.
Also, Bay High School has asked us to remind parents to be watchful of their children (I'm talking to myself here, too!). There is to be no running in the hallways (some of our older parishioners have been put in jeopardy by careening kids) or wandering / exploring in the building. We need to be respectful of the Bay High request and the safety of all, young and old(er).
It is a privilege to serve Christ in this capacity. Thank you!

Looking Toward Lent
Christ Church Westshore will have a variety of events and services during Lent, leading up to Holy Week. Some of which will be held in conjunction with Bay Presbyterian Church, a wonderful opportunity to worship alongside fellow Christians who have been so generous and welcoming.
We know both congregations will be blessed by the collaboration.
Ash Wednesday February 22 7:30 a.m. Communion with Imposition of Ashes - Auburn Hall, BPC
10:30 a.m. Communion with Imposition of Ashes - Auburn Hall, BPC
7:30 p.m. Combined Service with BPC Communion with Imposition of Ashes BPC Sanctuary Nursery care will be available
Shrove Tuesday ? Pancake Supper ??
Consider inviting your neighbors to join you for a pancake supper in your home on Tuesday, February 21st as you follow the old Anglican Shrove Tuesday tradition of ridding the house of "luxury items" such as eggs and fat in preparation for the penitential season of Lent. (May not want to include that explanation in the invitation, but it could be interesting trivia to discuss over pancakes and sausage!) | |

Ligonier Summer Camp Sunday February 12
Ligonier Camp and Conference Center is a Christian outdoor adventure camp and retreat center located in the beautiful Laurel Highlands of western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1914 as an interdenominational ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh, LCCC has a long history of ministry reaching campers across the United States and abroad! Through the years many Christ Church kids have attended Ligonier summer camps and have had an amazing and life-changing experience.
On Sunday February 12th a representative from Ligonier, Geraud Blumfield, will be with us to talk about the summer camp programs and answer any questions that kids and parents might have about Ligonier.
