Hello from Christ Church Westshore -
What a great turn-out for the First Annual Meeting of Christ Church Westshore. Equally exciting, especially to all those on the weekly set-up crews, was the arrival of the new trailer and "crates". You probably saw the large, wheeled boxes scattered around the hallways and rooms that we use. These carpet-covered crates, with custom designed shelves and storage spaces inside make set-up and tear-down amazingly efficient and easy. No more multiple trips lugging plastic bins in for the children's area, altar guild, coffee area, music team, etc. The crates roll easily on and off the trailer and contain what is needed for each specific area, the doors swing open and contents are organized and visible.
Kudos to Linda Jackson for her efforts in working with Portable Church Industries to locate a reasonably priced used trailer and crates, and to Bob Middlemiss for driving to Atlanta and hauling it back to Cleveland.
Help is still needed on the set-up crews, so that the (now lightened) work load can be shared by rotating weekly teams. Please speak to Bob Middlemiss or the leader of an particular area if you can help. This is a vital ministry that enables all of the Christ Church family to enjoy worship together on Sunday mornings.
Blessing to all the Christ Church Westshore family!

TableTalk
As a young boy, one of the rewards that Mom and Dad would give me for good behavior throughout the week was to stay up on Sunday night for my all time favorite show at 9 pm - Bonanza! The show chronicled the weekly adventures of the Cartwright family, headed by the patriarch Ben Cartwright (Lorne Greene). He had three grown sons, Adam, Hoss, and Little Joe, that assisted him on the Ranch. Hoss was my favorite and I was devastated to learn at 10 years old that Hoss had died in a drowning accident attempting to rescue a swimmer. The Cartwrights lived on a massive ranch called the Ponderosa with the nearest town being Virginia City where Sheriff Coffee and his deputy Clem Foster served the good citizens of the region. But, I digress.
I always thought and told my parents - "Man, wouldn't be great to live out on the Ponderosa and be a Rancher". Dad always explained in his wise way that life out West is never as great as it is portrayed by the Cartwrights, or Marshall Dillon, or the Lone Ranger. No, here in the real world, life's always got it's own challenges - no matter where we live.
I use these stories to suggest that as we transition to 2012 and I've taken a more "Rancher" leadership style in our lives here at Christ Church, I want you all to know that while I spend most of my time shepherding the leadership, preparing the various sermons and teachings, and meeting with ministry leaders - I'm still available to you! Because as Sybil reminded me this past week at Staff meeting - Even the Ranchers ride out to survey the Ranch.
So, like Ben Cartwright riding out to the lower 40 - you will be receiving a phone call from Linda Ward - sometime in the near future to come in for a visit at the Ministry Center where we can get caught up and see how I might assist you in your walk with Christ. For this is the real world, not the Ponderosa of Bonanza, and Hoss isn't always there to rescue us.
See you on Sunday!

Looking Toward Lent
Christ Church Westshore will have a variety of events and services during Lent, leading up to Holy Week. Some of which will be held in conjunction with Bay Presbyterian Church, a wonderful opportunity to worship alongside fellow Christians who have been so generous and welcoming.
We know both congregations will be blessed by the collaboration.
Ash Wednesday February 22 7:30 a.m. Communion with Imposition of Ashes - Auburn Hall, BPC
10:30 a.m. Communion with Imposition of Ashes - Auburn Hall, BPC
7:00 p.m. Combined Service with BPC Communion with Imposition of Ashes BPC Sanctuary Nursery care will be available
Shrove Tuesday ? Pancake Supper ??
Consider inviting your neighbors to join you for a pancake supper in your home on Tuesday, February 21st as you follow the old Anglican Shrove Tuesday tradition of ridding the house of "luxury items" such as eggs and fat in preparation for the penitential season of Lent. (May not want to include that explanation in the invitation, but it could be interesting trivia to discuss over pancakes and sausage!)

Ligonier Summer Camp Sunday February 12
Ligonier Camp and Conference Center is a Christian outdoor adventure camp and retreat center located in the beautiful Laurel Highlands of western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1914 as an interdenominational ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh, LCCC has a long history of ministry reaching campers across the United States and abroad! Through the years many Christ Church kids have attended Ligonier summer camps and have had an amazing and life-changing experience.
On Sunday February 12th a representative from Ligonier will be with us to talk about the summer camp programs and answer any questions that kids and parents might have about Ligonier.
Housing Request: Garrard, the Ligonier rep, will be arriving in the area on Saturday, February 11th and we would like to offer him a place to lay his head that evening. If you would like to host this young man on Saturday night, Feb 11th, please call the church office at 440-899-7151. Your hospitality and assistance would be appreciated.
