Greetings!

Christmas is almost upon us; the shopping is done (well almost), the gifts are wrapped (well almost), the house has been cleaned (well almost), and the parties have wound down.  But the most important "party' of all is yet to come.  As Christians, we celebrate Jesus' birth starting December 24th and going through Christmas-tide, ending January 5th.

Join us for Christmas Eve services, as well as Christmas Day!
Let the celebration begin (and God bless us, every one)!

Gene & Kim Sherman welcome you.

'Tis the season and the spirit softened the Grinch's heart.  Gene's TableTalk article was found (and Whoville is safe for another year)!

And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

Mark 2:17

I guess that by now most all of your shopping is completed, cards sent, special groceries purchased, and you're thoroughly ready for Christmas! Or maybe like me your "to do" list is as big, if not bigger, than this time last week!

No matter your preparedness at this hour, let us remind each other that this is the one time of year when "want is keenly felt, and abundance rejoices." There are friends, coworkers, neighbors that each and every one of us know - that do not know the abundant life that we know in Jesus Christ and, whether they realize it or not, are in bondage of some kind. Since the story of the Scripture is traveling from bondage to freedom in Christ, this time of year is the perfect time, despite our schedules, to invite someone to join us in our freedom walk with Jesus - whose birth we celebrate.

These friends live in nice homes, have manicured lawns, and may have several degrees, but they have the same need for a savior that you and I have, and this time of year is often when they are open for conversation due to the Christmas Carols they hear on the radio, the stars on the top of the tree, or the nativity sets in the fronts of yards. The passage above reminds us all that Jesus came not for those who think they have it all together before God, but for those who know that they don't. Jesus has come for them.

Therefore, if you picked up an invitation card the past couple of Sundays, use it to invite a friend to one of our Christmas services and to your home for a "bowl of smoking bishop", or something like that. If you didn't pick up a card, pick up the phone and call that friend with the invitation. In so doing, we recreate the Church in Acts incarnational ministry that we have seen this year in "The Church Ablaze" series.

My prayer for all of the Christ Church family this Christmas is that as we celebrate the Incarnation (God made flesh) we would reach out in incarnational ministry to our friends and demonstrate the love of Christ through our words and deeds.

I'll see you Christmas Eve!

Gene
