 Greetings!  

     Tis the season for busy parents and children. As you enjoy your end-of-the-year holiday celebrations, don't forget to celebrate your PTA successes before you enjoy some well deserved time off.

      The holidays are a wonderful time for reflection and the New Year is bright with possibilities. Relish your time with family and friends and know that we at Ninth District PTA are grateful for all you are doing for our children. 

Honorary Service Award

    Do you know someone who has made significant contributions that positively impact the lives of children, youth or families in San Diego and/or Imperial Counties?

     The Ninth District Honorary Service Award Committee is seeking nominees for this annual award. Honorees will be celebrated at the Annual Meeting/Founder's Day Celebration on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Scottish Rite Center in
San Diego.

     The program supports the California State PTA Scholarship and Grant programs. Look for more information on our website.

California State PTA Convention

     Let's all make plans to visit the happiest place on earth - a place where children's dreams come true and families are at the center of what's going on. I'm talking about the California State PTA Convention!   

    Convention is the place where PTA leaders and members become even more effective and impassioned about the crucial work they do all year long. Convention is also a place for networking, for making new connections and renewing friendships. And there's always time for laughter along with the work and maybe even a trip to Disneyland.  

     The 113th annual convention will be held in Anaheim,
May 9-12, 2012. Don't worry, you'll be home in time for Mother's Day or have your family drive up and join you at the other happiest place on earth - Disneyland. Through PTA we really do make dreams come true.

Congratulations to the more than 200 units in San Diego and Imperial Counties who have earned a "Ready, Set ...Remit" award from the California State PTA. These recipients remitted dues for 30 or more members before October 30. We're proud that over half of the units in Ninth District turned in early membership. For those of you not on the list, there are other opportunities to earn recognition. Click here to view the list of winners and learn about other membership awards.  

Free Brown Bag seminars on January 5

Need a little mid-term training boost? We now have three workshops for PTA board members on Thursday, January 5: How to Run an Election, Auditor's Workshop and Membership Workshop. Each seminar is jam-packed with information and tips. Choose the time that works best for you - morning or evening. Sign up for a class. 

By now, every unit should have sent in at least 15 members and their 2012 insurance premium. If you haven't, do so right away to remain in good standing. The insurance premium is $199 plus a $25 late fee.

Just like kids need good nutrition on a daily basis, kids need their daily serving of the arts. Are your kids getting enough art? Could they use an arts boost along with their math, science and reading. Here are ten simple ways parents can put a little more art into their children's lives (Did you know kids who are involved in the arts are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement!)  Read all ten ways.

The California State PTA is offering Graduating High School Senior Scholarships of $500 each to high school seniors for volunteer service in their school and community. Applicants must be a PTA or PTSA member. Learn more. 

Registration is now open for the California State PTA Legislation Conference in Sacramento on February 6-7. Whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned advocate, the Leg Conference is the place to learn what is happening in the capitol that affects children and schools. Consider bringing a student with you for a real-life class in civic education. Registration is $165 for adults and $75 for students and includes all conference activities and materials plus lunch and dinner on Monday and lunch at the Capitol on Tuesday.
