On September 8, 2011 at 8A.M., Florida PTA is urging it's 320,000+ members and community supporters of public education to take 8 moments of silence to protest the 8% cut to Pre-K-12 funding for the 2011-2012 school year. This 8% reduction continues a trend of deep spending cuts to Florida's public education.

 

Per pupil spending has fallen to levels not seen since the 2001-2002 school year when a gallon of gas cost $1.46, a gallon of milk cost $1.19, and Florida home values were rising.

 

A return to decade-old spending levels has resulted in schools closing, programs being cut and teachers losing their jobs in school districts around the state.

 

Our children's future and the future of public education are at risk.
