Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club, Palm Harbor, Florida - Members of the Florida PTA are gathered for the first combined Leadership Conference and Annual Convention, Friday, July 15th, through Sunday, July 17th at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor. Florida PTA members voted last November at the 87th Annual State Convention to combine the Annual Convention with their summer Leadership Conference. The convention is the annual business meeting of the Florida PTA. Leadership Conference is the annual leadership training opportunity, a tradition for 74 years. The joining of the two events allowed the change in election of officers to match National PTA, as well as provide more statewide PTA members to attend both Leadership Training and the Annual Convention and participate in the business meeting of Florida PTA.
Convention delegates will have the opportunity to participate in over 80 different workshops, including a track designed especially for students involved in their school's PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Student Association). In the business meetings, delegates will consider a resolution supporting student involvement in all levels of educational governance in the state, including representation on district advisory committees, advisors to the school boards, as well as the State Board of Education.
Keynote speaker, Sandy Traeger is a past Florida PTA President and is a teacher in Seminole County. In addition, other keynote speakers include former Congresswoman Pat Schroeder from Colorado and Karen Woodall, Executive Director, The Florida Center for Fiscal & Economic Policy, who will present a panel discussion on TABOR.
Florida PTA's Leadership/Convention provides an important opportunity for PTA members from across the state to network, exchange ideas and methods of enhancing child advocacy efforts statewide, as well as hone their skills as leaders within their own local PTA unit.
