Natural History | |
- Wild Blackberries are ripening. We have several large patches and they have been tasting so good...watch out for the thorns...ouch!
- The heat and dry weather have certainly supplied a lot of insects for bobwhite quail.
- Whitetail Deer and Elk, bucks and bulls antlers look so great in velvet.
- Those antlers are growing rapidly right now, up to an inch a day in July. It all has to do with genetics, age, and nutrition...not necessarily in that order.
- The spotted whitetail fawns are visible with their Moms now as are our elk calves.
- Our buffalo calves are grazing now, along with nursing and starting to push horns. They are about 2 inches long now.
- The shade feels pretty good these days. Know why? It can be 30 to 50 degrees cooler there. 50 degrees cooler usually takes place in lower areas deeper in the forests.
- Lizards and Skinks are easy to find on rocks in the Cedar Glades.
