The Greening of Corrections, Creating a Sustainable System
This report identifies green job training programs that provide quality employment opportunities in the emerging green economy. The section, "Completing the Sustainable Model" (p 20), provides corrections administrators ways to adapt existing training programs and build strategic partners. It is highly relevant to community college administrators, too.

Celebrates College Successes
The academic year has just finished with the fanfare of graduations, parties, and proud accomplishments. SEED member schools have celebrated tremendous successes including Northern Maine Community College graduating New England's first class of wind technicians and Mesaland Community College's continued development of its top-notch wind program with a new equipment donation. Read more about these achievements below.
At SEED, I am pleased to announce the addition of five new president-members to the American Association of Community Colleges' Sustainability Task Force (STF), which oversees the SEED initiative:

- Dr. Stanley Jensen, Colorado Mountain College, Co.
- Dr. Charlene Newkirk, Community College of Allegheny County, Pa.
- Dr. Charlotte Warren, Lincoln Land Community College, Il.
These presidents' experience and leadership will continue to bolster the depth and range of our initiative.
As we continue to grow the SEED membership of community colleges, I'd like to highlight the states with significant SEED membership. I'm proud to show off that my own state, Illinois, leads with 70% of our colleges as SEED members. Joining Illinois with 50% or more members are:

Member Colleges' Wind Programs Receive Recognition, Donations
Northern Maine Community College
Cutting Edge with New Wind Tech Degrees
Accolades go to Northern Maine Community College who awarded
 | | NMCC, Students on Top of Wind Turbine |
14 associate degrees to wind power technology graduates on May 14. This academic offering is the first of its kind at a post-secondary education institution in New England.
NMCC announced it would introduce New England's first wind power technology program in the fall of 2008. The first entering class was admitted a year later. Since then the college and the program have garnered international attention and accolades.
On May 24, Northern Maine also announced it had received $28,000 worth of tools and equipment donated from three German companies.
Mesalands Community College
Smoothly Running with New Filtration System
The renown North American Wind Research and Training Center at Mesalands Community College, recently received an oil filtration system donated from C.C. Jensen, an international company based in Denmark. The system is used to remove small particles that collect overtime that can damage wind turbine components.
"I wanted to educate the students on gear box and oil maintenance," said Taylor Coleman of C.C. Jensen.
Mesalands Community College's North American Wind Research and Training Center in Tucumcari, New Mexico, provides both a 1.5 megawatt turbine in a new facility for applied research in collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories of Albuquerque, New Mexico and other major universities, as well as associate degree training for wind energy technicians.
SEED congratulates both Northern Maine and Mesalands Community Colleges on these successful programs and partnerships with industry.
