Greetings!
Too hot for you? Check out our "chillers" table in the center of the store, featuring thrillers you can sink your teeth into. These include The Last Werewolf (still a few signed copies in stock), the paperback reissues of Agatha Christie classics (these have stunning covers!), and other mysteries to help you chill out.
It's a banner week for signed books at the Concord Bookshop! We have three additions to our gallery - Jael McHenry's The Kitchen Daughter, Dawn Tripp's Game of Secrets, and George R. R. Martin's A Dance with Dragons.
Our next event is on Sunday, July 24 - a Mother-Daughter Book Group workshop led by a mother-daughter pair who were part of a group that ran for six years. Attend the workshop solo, or bring your daughter to help get her involved and excited!
When you reach the bottom of this newsletter, you'll find this week's "hot pick" from our bargain book tables, a gorgeous book of African photography from award-winning journalists.
Our rolling "Sidewalk Sale" book cart remains out front in good weather. And, check out the In Our Window section for information on Concord's upcoming town-wide sidewalk sales.
Other upcoming events are listed in the left sidebar of this weekly newsletter and on our Facebook page.
As always, we look forward to chatting with you in the Bookshop; tell us what you're packing in your beach bag. Comments are also welcome via email to info.concordBookshop@gmail.com.

Our Next Event: A workshop on starting and maintaining a fun and successful mother-daughter book group Sunday, July 24 at 3pm
Not only are these groups a fantastic way to explore literature together, but also to see each other in context of other mothers and daughters.
Join Lori Day and her daughter Charlotte Kugler as they discuss how they formed a mother-daughter book group when Charlotte was in third grade, and how it was able to run successfully for six years. They formed lasting friendships, strengthened their own bonds, and discussed books that ranged from childhood classics to popular series.
Preregistration is required; call 978-369-2405 or stop at our front desk the next time you're in the bookshop. Reserve a seat (or a pair of seats!) for $10, returned to you on the day of the workshop in the form of a Concord Bookshop gift certificate. Lori, formerly Director of Admissions at The Fenn School, is an educational consultant who focuses on admissions and special education. She writes the It's Your Day blog, and can be found on the Huffington Post and in the pages of the Concord Journal. Charlotte, who just finished her freshman year at Mount Holyoke College, wrote the "Notes from Charlotte's Web" column in the Concord Journal for five years and is spending her summer writing for the Concord Journal and several other local newspapers.

New in our signed books gallery: The Kitchen Daughter by Jael McHenry

Last Thursday, we enjoyed an evening of conversation (and brownies!) with Jael McHenry, who read an excerpt of The Kitchen Daughter and discussed the way she created the protagonist, a shy, sheltered young woman with a passion (almost an obsession) for cooking.
The novel was vetted with people familiar with the autism spectrum. Ginny is a believable character who represents one manifestation of Asperger's Syndrome.
All the recipes in the novel - including the Midnight Cry Brownies we enjoyed - were developed by Jael McHenry, who herself is an enthusiastic and talented home cook.
Signed copies of The Kitchen Daughter - named a "Tantalizing Beach Read" at Oprah.com - are available at the Bookshop.

Game of Secrets by Dawn Tripp
On Sunday afternoon, Dawn Tripp joined us to read from her third novel, Game of Secrets.
Game of Secrets had its beginning in a series of forty poems that Tripp wrote over several years. Three images recurred in the poems - lovers in a cranberry barn, a young man driving down an unfinished road, and two older woman playing a board game. From these images, Tripp crafted a literary thriller, including poetic metaphors between the word game Scrabble and the "game of life."
Signed copies of Game of Secrets are on our shelves.

A Dance with Dragons: A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin
Perhaps you've been a fan of George R. R. Martin from his earlier books. Perhaps you're just discovering the Game of Thrones series with the HBO television show.
In either case, this signed first edition of A Dance with Dragons, the fifth book in the series, is sure to give you hours of reading pleasure!

The ultimate travel adventure
The Man Who Cycled the World by Mark Beaumont
The remarkable true story of one man's quest to break the record for cycling around the world
On the 15th of February 2008, Mark Beaumont had pedaled through the Arc de Triomphe in Paris-194 days and 17 hours after setting off in an attempt to circumnavigate the world. His journey had taken him, alone and unsupported, through 18,297 miles, 4 continents, and numerous countries. From broken wheels and unforeseen obstacles in Europe, to stifling Middle Eastern deserts and deadly Australian spiders, to the highways and backroads of America, he'd seen the best and worst that the world had to offer. He had also smashed the Guinness World Record by an astonishing 81 days. This is the story of how he did it.
Told with honesty, humor, and wisdom, The Man Who Cycled the World is at once an unforgettable adventure, an insightful travel narrative, and an impassioned paean to the joys of the open road.
