The Palette
Volume 3, 2011 |
Dear ,
As we have entered the summer months here, most would expect us to be enjoying the warm weather: relaxing in the sun; lazing in the garden and holding evening barbeques.
However, living in England, let's be realistic.
Still, it does give us plenty of time to concentrate on what we do best: Innovation in Colour Measurement. In this issue, we cover a few more of the activities we have been involved in and some of implementations we have recently introduced to promote colour analysis.
However, may we ask, if you do live in a warm country, would you kindly send some fair weather this way? Meanwhile, we welcome you to the latest edition of The Palette The Editor

ASTM Committee Meeting Report
An Overview of the ASTM Meeting in Baltimore, MD : June 2011
The Lovibond® commitment to both national and international standards for colorimetry keeps us active - providing quality standards within the industries we support. In June 2011, Nick Barnes, our Technical Manager, attended the ASTM committee meetings of ASTM D01 on Paints and Varnishes. Here, Nick is also a Chair of the subcommittees D01.26 on Optical Properties and D01.15 Symposia & Lectures.
In between enjoying the hospitality evening for our customers and distributors (thank you DC. Scientific!) and enjoying the delicious Crab Cakes (an old Maryland recipe), Nick also had time to participate in the discussions. Please find here his full report on the ASTM Committee Meeting, 2011.
ASTM is a great platform for the development of test methods and taking part is not difficult. You don't have to attend the meetings but it would always be good to see you. ASTM needs your expertise to ensure that the methods produced are fit for purpose. If methods are important to you, please consider taking part. Details can be found at the ASTM Website or feel free to contact us for a personal introduction.

New Dedicated Service and Application Department for Colour Measurement
As the Lovibond® Colour Measurement products continue to develop, we are finding many more opportunities both in new Application Areas and Regions.
The Lovibond® philosophy has always been to provide not just Products but Advice, Service and Support. Although we have always prided ourselves on our ability to respond quickly, we have now implemented a dedicated department for pre- and post-sales support.
So far this year, we have already held two very successful training sessions for our International Service Centres and are currently working on more interactive tools for use in the community. We are also introducing more Application-Specific material to help both resellers and end customers better understand how and where Colour Measurement can be of value.
As we continue to grow this knowledge base of experience and expertise, you can contact the department directly via

They Can't Stay Away
We are always delighted to welcome ex-employees back to our facilities in Amesbury but even we were overwhelmed when a former colleague of ours, Muriel, paid us a visit.
Muriel is pictured in the centre of the left-hand photograph during a Lovibond® Corporate Day Out to Southsea in - wait for it - 1939!
During her time at the company, Muriel worked in the Grading Department, sorting coloured glass for a range of Lovibond® instruments. She only left to move north to marry her childhood sweetheart but took many happy memories with her.
She shared these with us during her visit and we soon realized that, although technology has moved on a long way in the last 60 years, the corporate mentality and friendly atmosphere has remained the same (and, yes, we are in discussions now with the MD regarding a day trip to Southsea).
As the afternoon progressed, we then realized that Muriel has not lost her ability to grade glass so immediately put her back to work! |

Thank you for taking the time to read this edition of The Palette. We trust you found it of interest and, of course, we welcome any feedback.
