You can now view the RCMSi Procedure on YouTube

RCMSi is already saving time, cost and the environment. With PFXi instruments in full production, users are benefiting from the capabilities of Remote Calibration and Management via internet (RCMSi).

View our on-line video to see how easy RCMSi can be and how quickly you can be sure your PFXi instrument is operating correctly and with continuous compliance to international standards such as ISO 17025.

RCMSi technology eliminates the need to return the instrument to qualified Service Centres. It enables you to calibrate on-site, at your plant, yet still receive an authoritative Certificate of Calibration from an ISO 17025 / ISO 9001:2008 certified facility.

Result:

Fully Calibrated Instrument : Traceable Certificate of Compliance : Minimised Cost : No Environmental Impact

The Palette
Volume 2, 2011
Dear ,

Welcome to the latest edition of The Palette.

With the recent holiday season and an unexpected long weekend here in the UK, we are a little late sending this out. I am sure you will all understand that a certain Royal Wedding was reason enough for us to have an extra day off work to celebrate.

With celebrations now over and the country back in full swing, we too have returned to the office thinking of further innovative ways to enhance and simplify colour measurement for the industry while taking care to save the environment.

Some of these ideas are shared in this e-letter though please contact us at any time for further details.

Lovibond® Products Monitor Global Warming

The only realistic way of collecting world-wide data on the state of our planet is via satellite sensors which measure the solar energy reflected from the Earth's atmosphere and surface. The accuracy and reliability of this data over a lengthy period is hugely important.

The challenge is, however, that the launch of these satellites can often affect the calibration of the sensors, making confidence in results dubious. Once in orbit, the satellites need 'post-launch' calibration. An easy way to achieve this is via field instruments strategically placed around the world in so-called 'calibration sites'. These must be visible to the satellite station so are typically positioned in deserts or grassland. Here the instruments provide the in-situ data from Earth to validate the satellite measurements.

The National Physical Laboratory of the UK contacted Lovibond Tintometer to assist in the design of its GRASS (Gonio RAdiometric Spectrometer System) field instrument. In order to avoid discrepancies caused by the Earth's albedo  (which satellites cannot directly measure), it was necessary to develop an understanding of the angular reflectance of terrestrial surfaces. The Lovibond® expertise in light diffraction and optics was instrumental in developing a system capable of measuring reflected sunlight over half a hemisphere at 30-degree intervals ie 0°, 30°, 60°, 90°, 120°, 150° and 180°.

GRASS comprises of 36 cameras each consisting of an entrance optic and an optical fibre. The fibres feed to a set of multiplexers, which give one optical output that can be coupled to a spectrometer and thus give traceability to SI units.

GRASS is now being used by UK researchers to provide data for comparison with satellite information and develop a better understanding of Climate Change.

Innovation in Colour Measurement at Pittcon

Pittcon always provides Lovibond Tintometer with an excellent forum to meet new prospects, discuss on-going projects and network with customers. As a leading, international supplier of colour measurement equipment, we see our solutions being utilized in applications as varied as Petroleum & Oils; through Beers & Malts; to Powders & Pastes; so it can be challenging to find an event that draws so many visitors from such a diverse source.

Pittcon addresses this need and 2011 was no exception. The Lovibond® stand attracted guests from the petroleum, pharmaceutical, coatings and chemical industries to name just a few. The introduction of the Lovibond® NC45 was also exceptionally well-received by suppliers and manufacturers in the food industry who are looking for the solution to measure awkward ingredients such as pastes, sauces and powders. Pittcon certainly provided the optimal environment to announce this important new product release from Lovibond.
