Avoiding Eye Injuries |
More than 70% of eye injuries happen while not wearing safety glasses. Eye injuries are more common than most would think. Nearly 50% of eye injuries happen at home. Men are more likely to sustain eye injuries but women are not exempt. Simple tasks such as cooking, cleaning, or even applying make up can lead to eye injuries!
A chemical burn from household products can cause complications to the eye as well. If left untreated the chemical can continue to burn the cornea, which could lead to serious vision problems. More commonly, corneal abrasions (scratches) can lead to scarring, infections and vision loss if left untreated. Trauma to the eye can also cause cataracts.
Safety glasses as well as polycarbonate lenses, which are impact resistant, can help prevent many eye injuries. If they do occur, we do treat all types of injuries to the eye. We remove foreign bodies, treat sight threatening infections, and monitor until complete healing has occurred.
If you or anyone in your family has an eye injury, please call us at 770-834-0212. If it is after hours, leave a message on our 24 hour emergency hotline. |
Computer Vision Syndrome and Compuclear Lenses |
The visual demands in today's society are unlike those from even five years ago. Working at a computer for extended periods of time commonly leads to eyestrain, eye fatigue, headaches or blurred vision. These symptoms are linked to a condition called Computer Vision Syndrome. During a comprehensive eye exam, our doctors can recommend the best solution to relieve these symptoms.
Often glasses are prescribed to wear specifically at the computer. A measurement from the nose to the computer screen allows computer glasses to be specifically made for each individual. For maximum viewing comfort, the lenses must be made with a non-glare treatment. This eliminates unwanted glare from the lenses that can cause additional eyestrain.
CompuClear lenses are specialized progressive lenses for computer use. These revolutionary lenses provide a wider viewing area at both computer and near distances. They also include a premium non-glare treatment specifically designed to eliminate eyestrain and fatigue.
