A Note From Jo:
Happy February!
Good grief! Is it already February? What happened after New Year, it went by in such a blur? Is it just me or is life racing away?
Truly, it seems that the older I get, the quicker Christmas comes.
Talking of getting older, what do Helen Fielding (British writer), Leslie Ash (British actress), Justin Fashanu (British footballer, the REAL football that is), Seal (British singer) and Prince Andrew (British stud oops, sorry your Highness, British Royal-Best-Looking-Prince) have in common with me? Yep! We all share the SAME birthday this month and NOPE, I'm not telling you when (but I bet you google it).
Needless to say, February is a time for birthdays and romance, though not necessarily in that order and I will be promoting the Tea Room at the Bridal Show this month, at the Scottsdale Fairmont Princess, to remind our brides to come in for their bridal showers.
Talking of Good Looking Royals and brides (great segway), isn't it exciting about 'The' Wedding! Of course, I predicted it back in June in one of my earlier newsletters. We are getting SOOO excited at the Tea Room and you need to call us for reservations on Friday, April 29th, Wedding Day. More details in a bit. You won't believe what we have planned!
Lots of new merchandise in the Gift Store this season and some really exciting plans to remodel and update the look of the Tea Room....watch this space.
Have a wonderful February and spend time on the 14th telling your loved ones that you love 'em!
Cheerio for now,
Jo

MISSING GRANDMA ROSE
"Grandma Rose...She's Back!"

Over the last few months, Grandma Rose has ventured far and wide from the Tea Room, much to the chagrin of her devoted husband Grandpa George.
Well, we are happy to report...she's back, though not completely unscathed.
Apparently there was a little tussle in Texas, where she was found driving down the wrong side of the road, Grandma said:
"Oh dear, and I thought lots of nice people were simply waving at me as I sped along the freeway so naturally I leaned out the window and waved back. I had no idea I was on the wrong side of the road and they were trying to warn me, (when did they change sides?). Well, the dashing young police officer was very patient and when I told him I was from England he said he understood completely. He gave me a stern telling off and said something about pink underwear next time I get into trouble??? Cheeky little devil"
So, all's well that ends well and the happy couple are now reunited and back at the Tea Room, although rumor has it Grandma is off in search of her own personal invitation to the Royal Wedding...

Bruce Richardson came to the Tea Room just before Christmas and gave a wonderful presentation on the history of tea and tea etiquette.
He took lots of photos signed every tea book that we had, all of which he had written. It was a great event and Bruce promised to write nice things about us in his article that comes out this Fall in Tea Time magazine.
We still have a wide assortment of books related to tea in stock and many are signed by the author Bruce Richardson. Cheers Bruce for a great afternoon!

Did You Know that it DOES freeze in Arizona?
|
This may not be an astounding fact for all my Arizonan readers, but to others further afield (like me) it may come as something of a revelation.
Last week, we actually had to close the Tea Room for a day because the pipes were all frozen and we had no water...not even a drip.First time in almost nine years we have had to close for something other than a public holiday.
Well, during that very cold day I drove past a poor homeless man huddled under a dirty old blanket by the side of the road. An unusual sight for Carefree.First I went on by, but on reflection...and realizing just how cold it would be that night I doubled back, drove past him again and headed back to the Tea Room to pick up an old quilt that we had out on the patio.I retraced my route, phew he was still there, actually he hadn't moved an inch since I'd gone by five minutes before...must have been so cold. So I parked the car, got out and tentatively said "excuse-me." Silence. I tried again..."Err, Sir?" Nothing.
Oh no!Maybe he was frozen to death! Tentatively, I lifted the filthy blanket about two inches off the floor...just high enough to see the 'homeless' cactus being protected from the frost underneath.
Exit stage left... before someone see me.
