Ranch Woodcutting

Join us October 12-15!

 Any or all days...
Lunch provided

(Overnight accomodations can be provided upon request)

Heat for the Ranch in the winter is supplied by woodstoves.  Cutting, splitting and stacking wood is a significant time consumer in the fall months.

Come out and lend a hand!

(This helps our neighbors as well, as the wood supplied is dead fall on their land.)

Please RSVP at the contact info listed below...

A note from the Directors...

We have NEWS!!

For the past 21 months, a little towheaded girl, arriving on Christmas Eve 2009 at 6 days old, has filled the Ranch house with joy, laughter, and more recently, the pitter patter of little feet...

Nikki

After earnestly seeking God's will for her life as well as for our family, we have accepted God's call to become her forever family!

Adoption is such an awesome picture of what God has done for us, making us sons and daughters of the King...and we are honored to now have this picture as a permanent part of our family story.  The paperwork has been started and we will announce a "Gotcha Day" party upon finalization.

Thank you to all those who have prayed for her, invested in her young life, and prayed for us as we love and parent her and our other children.

It's Fall at the Ranch!

As always, even though the steady stream of hearts passing through the gates of the Ranch has eased, the projects and work continues!

A windstorm this past summer tore the roof off the only shelter our horses have from the bitter winds and wet snows of winter. We are racing the weather to get that completed.

Sharing stories from the Ranch, Romania and the Philippines at churches and with families and groups near and far, catching up on summer neglected paperwork, newsletters and website updates, homeschooling our 3 children, chasing a speedy toddler,  all serve to keep us busy even during the "off" season at the Ranch.

We are SO grateful for the many hearts and hands that served at the Ranch this summer, in Romania this past spring, and continue to serve through His work at Mercy Ministries!

In His Hands,

 Scott & Josie

Leaving on a Jet Plane...

Gwin FamilyIn less than a week, five members of the Gwin family will board a jet plane to travel half way around the world to the islands of the Philippines.
Celebrating 25 years of partnership with the Evangelical Free Child Development Centers of the Philippines, Mercy Ministries assisted in founding and currently helps to sponsor three of these Centers.

These Centers provide a Pre-K through 2nd grade education for children living in poverty and have recently added grades 3-5.

The Gwin's will be celebrating with the Centers, touring the Centers during classes, visiting the Children's Shelter of Cebu, and actively praying about  future vision and partnership.

One Thousand Ranch Gifts...

"One Thbook cover One thousand giftsousand Gifts" by Ann Voskamp, is a recently read book about being aware of the everyday ways that God shows His love to us in everyday things.

About how thankfulness precedes the miracles in our lives...

How seeing these miracles, choosing to stop within the craziness and the chaos to give thanks for them, can only point us back to Him, causing us to draw closer to the One who ever seeks us...

How do we express in such a short space the thankfulness, the gratitude, counting His gifts, miracles, from this past summer at the Ranch?

*High school students on a youth retreat, standing around the fire pit under the brilliant stars, hands raised to heaven in worship

*Cheery faces of yellow sunflowers bobbing on pale green stems in the bright prairie sun

*A former Romanian orphan girl, now adopted in a loving home, wrestling with scars from her past, initially afraid of the horses, painting FEARLESS in broad strokes across the warm back of a little mare that gifted her with so much more than courage.

*The thunder of the horses hooves as they dance across the prairie ahead of an approaching storm

*A young couple, parenting children with traumatized and scarred hearts, arriving with lined faces, bowed from stress, hearts weary... departing with softened faces, filled hearts, straightened shoulders, and long lasting memories of God's grace and lessons learned.

*The soft moo of a momma cow as she nuzzles her newborn calf

*A young college girl , seeking God's will for her life, finding His eyes reflected back at her in the faces of young child and adult alike that pass through the gates of the Ranch.

*A towheaded toddler seeking, picking, eating jewel red cherry tomatoes from bright green vines in the garden, soft yellow seeds dribbling down her chin.

*The laughter of foster children from the local county as they race across the newly constructed playground, climbing, tumbling, swinging, growing...

*Eggs colored softly green laid by copper hued chickens in golden straw

*Two friends, rocking together on covered porch, sharing life, memories, listening to the soft tinkle of  wind chimes and reflecting on God's voice in their young lives.

*Majesty in motion as jet black skin, rippling muscles, and pounding hooves kick up powdery dust in an oval arena...four legged teacher of His lessons...

*Hearts touched by His love at the Ranch, dipped in sun sparked water, in a steel trough normally touched by soft equine muzzles, rising in obedient testimony of His cleansing power, verbally professing their commitment to their Savior and Creator.

And 987 more...

In Romania...

Fred and Karleen Dewey spent this summer in the States with plans to return to Romania this fall.
However, a necessary knee replacement surgery for Karleen, means that Fred will be returning alone to Romania for a just a brief visit later this fall.
Emails, Skype and cell phone calls to mentored volunteers and orphans have utilized the latest technology to continue to connect with those they love and care for.
Friends and family with partnering organizations who have visited Romania this summer have given first hand updates and brought back pictures.
They are looking forward to giving a more detailed update after Fred's return.
