EMPLOYERS

When Shadow Trailer of Williston needed a new over-the-road driver, all they had to do was pick up the phone and call Workforce Connection. Jimmy Cook was ready and waiting on the other end - not only did he possess a Commercial Driver License (CDL) but he came equipped with a vast background as a mechanic.
As Shadow Trailer's hiring manager, Kiley Dean, put it, "he was perfect."
Cook came to the attention of Workforce Connection during a visit to the staff-support Mobile Resource Unit (MRU) when it stopped in Bronson. The MRU is fully equipped with computers with satellite Internet access, office equipment, and most importantly, a professional human resources coordinator to help job seekers. Cook received assistance updating his resume which the MRU coordinator then delivered to the human resource recruitment specialist at the Workforce Connection's Levy County Resource Center in Chiefland. The HR recruitment specialist had been working with Shadow Trailer trying to find the perfect job candidate.
Cook was interviewed that same day, and started work the next.
The next thing he knew, he was on the road.
"They were very, very helpful in finding me employment," Cook said of Workforce Connection during a recent delivery in Tampa. "I rate them Number One."
Dean said that hiring Cook "has been a blessing to us here."
"It is going very, very well, wonderfully well," she said. "He's a great driver."
Moreover, Dean said that "if we need anything, I just pick up the phone and call Workforce, in fact, that's how I got hired."
Dean, who had been out of work for 18 months, said that as soon as she was "100 percent ready" to find the right job, she went to Workforce Connection applied on a Monday, interviewed on Tuesday and was hired on Wednesday.
Asked if she would recommend Workforce Connection's services, available at no charge, to other employers, Dean said, "Oh, absolutely. I stay in touch through the week."
